When we first acquired Leylandagreen @michaelblighandassociates, our landscape architect of choice, kept referring to the fact we were so lucky having much borrowed landscape — and then set out to create a garden that utilised such a thing. Being good city folk it took us a while to understand exactly what it was he was on about but, eventually, we understood why he was so excited and how important it was in the overall context of what he set out to achieve.
Mind you, at one point we did think he had gone too far when we awoke to find about 30 of next door’s prized possessions grazing on the perfectly manicured front lawns and breaking down some of our hedging. Borrowed cattle as well, we thought? Fair to say they were not on loan for very long!
