A funny thing happened while riding my bicycle Sunday morning. It was such a subtle shift in thinking I almost didn’t appreciate the gravity of it.
John and I have a tradition of riding our bikes to breakfast on Sundays. The little restaurant we go to is the Sυɱɱҽɾʅαɳԃ Bҽαƈԋ Cαϝҽ, which is about eight miles from our house.
There are some pretty good hills along the route, especially the last one, so it is a good way to earn breakfast.
I usually look forward to our ride, but this Sunday I woke up feeling terrible. I had a headache and felt tired. We had been on the road the last week and I was beating myself up for not eating as well as I should and for drinking more wine than I normally do.
When I looked in the mirror and saw the rosacea on my cheeks had flared up I thought, “Well, that’s what happens when you eat this way!” By the time I got on my bike, I was in a foul mood and wondered how my 𝙤𝙪𝙩-𝙤𝙛-𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙚-𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧-𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙡𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙩-𝙛𝙖𝙩-𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛 was even going to make it the eight miles to the café. (っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ The rest of this short story is on today's blog post! ♥
Do you do the same thing I do? I wonder just how many years it will take me to stop thinking this way????

After an afternoon of wheel work and brake maintenance, it felt so good to get riding in the mountains. Nothing strenuous: just a casual 20 km foray around the Bow River Loop and Lake Louise Village. Sunset at 10:05 tonight!
After a day off in Murghab, we spent two days cycling to Alichur. We experienced awesome, lunar landscapes and a brutal headwind that made for slow progress. Alichur finally appeared like a mirage on the horizon and we stopped there for food before cycling a little further on to camp at Sasykkul.
The highlight of our trip so far has to be cycling through India’s 28th state Sikkim! Here we are arriving after a 1,900m downhill from Darjeeling to get to the border.
Little did we know we would be denied entry and told to go back up 1,900m to cross at a different border. Trystan tried his best to persuade the guard to let us in. But after several failed attempts we gave up, drank tea and biscuits and waited for our Jeep to the top.
Lesson learnt: Always check the border crossings.
Backwoods bike shop. When I loaded up my Disc Trucker for our camping trip, I noticed I had a flat (again). This is the fourth rim side puncture this year. I changed the rim tape on the back wheel last month, and I hope that‘s done the trick. Changed the rim tape on the front wheel today. Also decided to give the BB7 brakes a 3500 km brake pad replacement service. TBH: there was lots of life left on the old pads. These BB7 pads are almost twice as much as the Shimano pads I use on the Willard, but they clearly hold up to hard, repeated use. Nice!
Toronto to Oshawa: 78km. I usually ride out west of the city; so pleasantly surprised by the beautiful shoreline and marshes of the east. Quickly approaching my Cycle Challenge goal after putting in 199km this weekend. Follow the link in my bio for more information.
Crossing the Nullabor 1932 My Grandad Fred Wilson left his hometown in Lancashire because he didn't want to spend his life working in a cotton mill. First man to cross the Nullabor by bicycle. What you don't see in the picture is my Grandmother, who stands behind the lens, and with her adventurous Dutch upbringing was probably behind the madcap idea to begin with! She pedalled thousands of kilometres across a desert continent in a sundress and plimsolls ..... 💕 #nullabor#cycling#lifeisanadventure#royton#alkmaar#desertcrossing#pedalpower#ancestors#greatdepression
Double tap ❤, if this pedal makes you feel funny in that special place. 😉
