Day 3 - Our first mountain pass, Donahue, is over 11,000 feet. In stark contrast to the pale grey rock and scree of the pass itself, both ascent and descent cross some of the most amazing wildflower fields I have ever seen. Huge primary patches of red, green, and blue are sprinkled with softer hues. The rain holds off for the day. We also traverse Island Pass, the snow-capped Banner Peak framed gloriously behind an alpine lake. We drink some tea (with just a touch of whiskey, to celebrate Mom's complete lack of adverse reaction to the altitude) and stay up "late" to catch the sunset. Looking back towards Yosemite (we left the park today) the sky is a garish orange, the sun filtering through smoke from the Mariposa fire which started the day we hit the trail. Today we hiked 12 wonderful miles.
Almost missed it but here is my #throwbackthursday post, from the first Dog Olympics I went to last October. I was a natural at the agility course. I met my best friend Katie this day too! And they wrote about me in the paper! What a great day this was!!!
Week 33 #trailaweekchallenge
The Wedge at Little Grand Canyon: 22 mile trailrun right along steep, hair-raising ridgeline with nonstop epic views, soaring redtail hawks, darting lizards galore, geological wonders around every bend, and a good reminder of how small I am. Best trail this year thus far.
To see and to understand are different.
This is a project that has been in the plans for a couple months. The main reason it took so long was because I was looking for an intelligent, capable rider. Not some random instamodel who “OMG loves horses”. I wanted someone who represents the equestrian culture. Hayley has been riding since she was young and handle my wild horse very well, scroll to see him spook and her just smile for the ride.
I’m going to be working on a lot of projects like this for the rest of the year. Focusing on representing lifestyles, people, and cultures in what they really are; not what Instagram makes them out to be.

Home... just for the night. Every morning, while the rain blew sideways against the hut, it took all of our strength to pack up gear and put our wet shoes on. Leaving a warm and dry refuge into the nastiest weather imaginable was no easy task... Our saving grace was the sole fact that with each day, came a hut more beautiful and isolated than the last 🏠✨
