Happiness is... being on an island, walking bare feet, with no make up, beachy hair, jumping on a boat and go snorkeling and exploring the underwater world! Yes, that’s my happiness! The countdown has begun, 6 more days till another adventure! 💙.
Our driver said it was time to find more elephants, and I almost challenged him to stay because we had between 25-30 in front of our truck. I was very content watching these but I had faith in our guide. As our truck came around another massive bend, I couldn’t believe my eyes. We were surround. Hundreds of elephants all going about their business without a care in the world. It was unlike anything I have ever seen, way more elephants than I saw in Africa. We were in elephant heaven.
Kaudulla National Park is one of the best parks in Sri Lanka and is known as the place to find the Asian Elephant. When we arrived to town, I immediately started negotiating priced for the cheapest game drive. Here’s the trick about these tours, it’s all the same. No matter how much you pay, you’re going to get the exact tour everyone else does.
I found a relatively cheap one and booked him for the afternoon. As we went to meet him, I saw a couple trying to book a tour as well. I walked up past a few drivers who tried to stop me from talking to the couple. I heard they were trying to charge them over 120 euro, when it only suppose to be $25-30 per person max. I told them how outrageous the pricing was, how much ours is, and extended an invitation. We quickly gained two more in our truck.
We found our driver, jumped into the Jeep and set off down the road towards the park with my excitement building.
I love game drives. Africa provided so many great ones, so it will be interesting to see how Sri Lanka compares.
After paying our entry fees and opening the roof of the Jeep, our time was here. We drove into Kadulla ready for some elephants.
The first 15 minutes in through the forest where you can’t see much besides a couple wild peacocks.
The tree line ended and we were greeted by the massive grasslands this park is known for. Far in the distance, I spotted our first elephant...to be continued
