I can’t lie, I’m exhausted. Nursing is NOT easy, and I’ve been working all week. Oh, I’m also planning a wedding in 6 weeks 🤯🤬(less than a month to go!) I might be a little crazy, but that makes life fun, right?!
Anyway, I will get back to/check in on everyone very soon!! Now for a glass of wine and some cuddle time with my boys 🙌🍷😴🌙♥️

Some of you are just starting a new journey. You are scared and the road ahead seems long. Some of you are in a rough patch and can’t see the light on your path very brightly. You are tired and your soul is weary. I’ve been there. I’m here to tell you it will all be worth it. I promise! How do I know this?
Because today I was offered and accepted a position for my dream job. Beginning in mid-February (pending passing my boards) I will be a Clinical Research Nurse with a top rated hospital working in Gynecologic Oncology. I can’t tell you what this means as someone who was once a cervical cancer patient.
There have been lots of tears, lots of struggle, lots of hard work, and lots of trying to figure out work-life balance. But I have survived and I am at the end.
47 days to graduation!

Week 1 and DONE! 💪🏼
Let’s be real for a hot second. I pulled out all of my materials from the past two days of class and instantly felt a huge weight on my shoulders. Even though I’m familiar with a lot of the content we’ve gone over, I was still shaking in my boots. I honestly couldn’t figure out how I was going to learn even more complex topics in such a short amount of time. So instead of stressing, I decided to go do something small for myself so I could come back home motivated and less stressed. Pedicure cured all my doubts 💁🏼♀️
But honestly, it’s ok to be scared. I’m terrified. Terrified I might not do well, terrified for my friends. It’s overwhelming. That’s why it’s SO important to keep doing things for yourself and not forget about your own wellbeing! Take yourself out to lunch, go to the mall, whatever. Take an hour if you need it. That one hour of clarity isn’t going to ruin your nursing career. We CAN do this!
Ok, rant over. On a different note, how CUTE is my new MacBook case?! 🌴 (v obsessed with palm leaves rn)

Nurses have chosen to make a difference in other’s lives, as well as Legal Nurse Consultants. LCNs are able to review records and come to an understanding that individuals have been hurt, and are seeking for answers, healing, and affirmation. As an LCN, you’re able to make a difference in the lives of those who may have been wronged by offering your expertise. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Being prepared is incredibly vital when it comes to nursing. Whether it be in the hospital, or in your everyday life, having things that make your day a little bit easier will help you excel. // What’s in your go-to bag?
Youd be cheesin' this hard if you got paid to take selfies.. (something we all already do anyway🤔....) That's what made this decision SO. DARN. EASY. I was already scrolling and posting on IG on a regular basis about something I already love: fitness. So it just made sense 🙏. Now I get to G I V E💕 and R E C E I V E🤑 all from the palm of my hand🤲. •You just keep posting your selfies gf while I get paid for mine😘

Currently sitting at the dining room table listening to voiceover lectures.
I’m slowly making headway with the main goal of being able to relax a little bit this weekend. I went to the gym this morning as well as a little cleaning and laundry in between lectures. 77 days left of nursing school.
What are your plans for the weekend (whether they be working, studying, relaxing, or all of the above!)?

Medication Errors in Hospitals 💊: Today in class we went over the fatal risks of preventable medication errors. Unfortunately over 10,000 deaths occur annually due to medication errors in hospitals.
😫Some of the leading contributions to medication errors are; poor staffing ratios, high workload and stressful work environments.
🏥 Most hospitals have a three-step process for medication preparation and administration. The physician orders it, The pharmacist prepares it and the nurse administers it. So even if the physician makes an error, the pharmacist or the nurse can catch it before it reaches the patient. But if the nurse does not catch the error, unfortunately it will most likely reach the patient. Research has shown that nurses intercept 50% to 86% of medication errors before the medication reaches the patient.
✅ This is why IDC (independent double check) can help prevent medication errors when properly performed. IDC’s can help nurses ensure that what the physician ordered matches the patient, drug, dosage and the route.
💉 As a nursing student I am going to commit to preventing medication mistakes. Some of the ways I’ve learned so far in school would be, following my hospitals policy for medication administering such as; verifying correct patient, correct dosage, correct route and timed correctly. Obviously, I will double triple quadruple check as well, even when I start to feel comfortable in my role I will take those extra steps to ensure patient safety.
❓To the nurses/physicians/dentists or anyone already in the health care profession that administers medications: What are some of the ways you ensure medications errors do not happen? What steps do you take to guarantee patient safety?

When people ask me “how do you have fun at work?”....”well...let’s just say getting an unstable patient from the ED...”
Those patients that come up and need Ativan right away...always fun...
