Identity in use. I’ve been part of skateboarding for almost 8 years. Six years actively, two years passively, still aware of what’s going on in the industry… at least that’s what I thought. Skate industry and the monetisation model changed rapidly. Where a pro skateboarder could make nice living by being a pro 10 years ago, it is not so easy nowadays. Or is it? Nowadays skaters need to adapt to new marketing channels as any other businesses. What I mean by that, is even big “classic” brands of skateboarding completely missed the wave of social media and what happens is that many skaters are nowadays bigger than the actual brand itself, just because it was a second nature to them and channels like Instagram was something they grew up with. It means that there are not so many “full length” skate videos anymore. There are not video “parts” cause they’re not “part” of anything. There has been time where skaters were living for trips and buying vans so they can make trips with their teams. Some skate teams do it still and it is still something skaters want to do. Business changes but not skate dreams and true values. That’s why I chose to display the identity on a classic Chevy van. It was my dream as a young skater and I wasn’t the only one.
