Should the Giants keep CB Janoris Jenkins?
Jenkins will be going into the 4th year of his 5 year, $62.5 million contract, and is currently 30 years old. He finished the season with 70 tackles, 15 passes defended, and 2 INTs.
I'd definitely want to keep Jenkins, but only on a pay cut. He's the 10th highest-paid CB in the league but ranked as the 53rd-best corner on PFF, which is a far cry from being ranked 8th in 2016. All is not to blame on Jenkins, however, since former GM Jerry Reese tried to save his dying career by signing multiple high priced defensive free agents, which we know didn't work out well for him. Plus, Giants had the 24th overall defense and 23rd pass defense, which wasn't helped by 2 below average starters in Curtis Riley, BW Webb and injuries to Landon Collins.
Jenkins will receive some help in the defensive backfield this upcoming season, since 3rd round supplemental draft choice Sam Beal will return from injury. As long as the Giants plug holes on the defense and address needs in the secondary through the draft or free agency, Jenkins can still be a valuable piece at cornerback.
