TRAPPED IN LOUISE BOURGEOIS’ Crounching Spider (2003) one week ago, at @Dia artfoundation 🕸🕷| As I’ll be trapped in so many art events in these upcoming weeks, first with #friezeny and #tefaf week in NYC and then Flying to Venice for the opening of the #venicebiennale2019 .
So excited! 🎉
————————————————————————-
I’ve never experienced before a #louisebourgeois spider in these more human-size dimension, and I can grant that both physical and #psychological impact is even more impressive. #diabeacon has just such valuable selection of her works in the upstair spaces dedicated to her
.
Also, I truly loved the Louise Bourgeois’s quotation they included in the presentation: “Every day you have to abandon your past or accept it, and then, if you cannot accept it, you become a sculptor”
.
Indeed, for Bourgeois her art-making process has always been a kind of exorcism, trying to translate and materialize into forms experiences and demons from her past, so to face them, and alleviate the their weight on the present.
She always molds almost abstract but highly mnemonic, #symbolic and evocative figures working with different media, which became all site of a psychological operation for her, but also with the potential viewer of her works, especially if particularly charged with unresolved elements and traumas from his past. Her works are like membranes, so symbolically imbued. They are often surrogates for the body and its suffering, and imply a suffering body reacting. That’s probably why I feel overtime so much into her work and her special sensibility

#100daysofsabbatical day 26 #hiline#hilineart Sarah had booked us a walking tour of #greenwichvillage a really good way to get to know the comings n goings of an area n a piece of history from an expert who grew up there and they’re free tho a tip is welcome. It wasn’t too far then for a pizza lunch in little Italy and the HiLine. It was a cold day n very windy n everyone huddled in their coats n scarves. Still worth the walk n a chance to check out the art works. A little story for Fashion Revolution Week. Because the weekend trip turned out colder than expected we popped in to Macy’s to buy another pair of leggings for my younger granddaughter. We paid for the clothes n 10year old Clara noticed the plastic hangers being thrown in the bin. ‘They are not going to throw those away are they?’ Which opened the discussion What do shops do with the plastic hangers? Jodie had worked at Nike and said that all theirs get reused. What do shops generally do?? What happens to plastic hangers?? #plastichangers#plastic#reuse#recycle#reduce#fashion#fashionrevolution#fashionrevolutionweek#art#outdoorart#walkingtour#adventure#newyork#newyorkcity#usa#america#nanna#granddaughter#familyweekend
