Bed hangs with Thomas ❤️
How’s his neck roll.
*yell whispers* HE’S ON A DIET.
The days are DEFINITELY getting cooler. Good thing the hubster is fitting a DIESEL HEATER WEEEW!! Attempting that today and tomorrow. .
Naturally with ALL things with the van it will take no time at all and be an absolute breeze and work the first time we turn it on 😐
Primed and ready for adventure 😼
The reality is the wind picked up and he darted back to his hidey hole in the van 😂 .
Poor Marv doesn’t love the wind. And MAN was it windy the other night! The spot we were in was nicely sheltered but the odd gust would clap the van.
We were super snug though and didn’t mind. We had a slow morning, which are THE BEST in the van.
Marv waits for one of us to sit down so he can have a lap and Thomas waits patiently to be invited up on the bed for cuddles ❤️ the best.
Bed is made, Van is stocked and we’re hitting the road ❤️
SO CLEEEEEAN. It won’t last 😂
The weather looks like a bit of rain but we don’t mind really. It’s just nice to be on the road for a while! .
Off to a wee pub for some live music tonight too. WEEEW!
Almost the weekend gang! What’s everyone up to?
How many watts and amps do you need?
There are so many factors involved to give a good answer to this question.
What to you want to power? What type of weather are you going to be in?
Do you plan for the worst weather (rain for weeks) or the average weather?
All I can do is explain what I did and my reasoning.
Simple was my goal. I don’t have any experience in solar installations and very little with electrical.
I chose the Yeti 1250 by Goal Zero.
I have 270 watts of solar panels and two 100 amp batteries for a total of 200 amp hours.
Lights on dimmers
Outlets for phones, iPad and other device charging
Occasionally use: glue gun, oven-yes 12v
Outlets for computer and vacuum charging
Electronic ignition on stove
I have an inverter as part of my package from Ford. It charges the batteries while I drive.
I have a plug for off shore power that I can use to charge my batteries and plug into a power strip at the same time.
I have a breaker box, 15 amp, for my 110v power and a fuse box for my 12v power. I did this for fire safety.
How does it work? Great if in full sun. The refrigerator draws most of the power. 58w when running.
If it is cloudy or raining the system lasts for 3 days. If I need it longer I turn off the refrigerator at night (if it is cloudy it is usually colder at night too so the teddy doesn’t need to run at night to stay cold.
If I am running out of power I can run the van engine to charge batteries.
Since I drive almost daily instead of park for long periods of time, this system works great for me.
What would I change? Nothing at this time. If I wanted to park for longer periods of time in cloudy weather I would change to a 12v refrigerator.

Vanuel is calling like the Jumanji drums at the moment.
2 more days of work then 4 days off to finish more work on the van. Then 3 days of work then 5 DAYS OFF TO HEAD TO THE COAST WEEEW!
Hubster worked hard yesterday tidying up and moving our batteries and electrics giving us more storage. (Guys, you can never have too much storage. We now have a laundry cupboard. I’m far too excited about this) I’d show a pic but... it’s a box. So, you get a throw back pic of the van instead 😬
We’re also buying a diesel heater which I’m also way too excited about. It IS getting cold here now so.... valid.
HAPPY MONDAY CHERUBS! ❤️
LOOK AT HIM! Amazing. The stubby little legs and the floof *squeals* I love them so much. .
Got the day off today and pretty sure I’m going to arse sit for most of it. Nearly at the end of our busier September work rota, bring on October! We’ll be heading up the coast plus a wee jaunt to Glasgow for something fun with the van 😬 which may or may not involve a film crew. STAY TUNED KIDS!
What’s everyone else up to today?
Really missing being on the road with my three boys.
We took the van to the garage today to check a suspected diesel leak (and fix the brake lights). No leak found 🙄 BUT! Better to be safe than blown up.
As I drove the van away from the garage I gave Vanuel a little pat (yes I talk to the van. What, you think ya betta than me??)
and said “We’ll be on the road again soon Vanuel!! I CAN’T WAIT!”
I find that I don’t like to sit still for long. And the van has only amplified that I think. However I know we need to work for the season to fund the travel. So even though my feet are HELLA itchy, I know we’ll be back on the road soon 🤘
“Don’t take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.”
Elbert Hubbard. .
ELBERT! Mate. So true. Ever since we’ve “downsized” our life, we definitely take a relaxed approach! It works for us.
This month at the distillery we’ve been working more than we normally would. Short staffed! So we offered to work a bit more to help out. We have a rad little team there so we’re happy to help! That said, October has us back to less shifts and we are EXCITED FOR THIS!
1. More time for passion projects again
2. We have a 5 days stint off and we’ll be running away in the van to the north coast WEEEEW!
Thanks to google satellite I’ve found some sweet beach spots like this one 😍
We love hanging out with the doors open. Just watching the water. Maybe some music on. Thomas loves it too coz he’s allowed on the bed in the van 😬 Also we think we have something fun figured out for our flooring (yay refurb!) stay tuned! 🤘
Whilst we’re good at not wishing the days away any more, we’re pretty excited to bigger off in the van for a bit! 🤘
A dreamy view. The Faroe Islands 😍
I know it’s Monday and not Thursday but I’ll throw it back if I bloody well want eh? Rainy day here at the cottage much like the weather we copped in the Faroe’s. But it didn’t matter! It was still BLOODY GLORIOUS! As you can see. It was like being in a Disney movie there. Incredible. We didn’t have much time there so we really want to go back eventually. But the list of places we want to visit for the first time is growing FAST! .
We DO want to head south again for the winter but I’m thinking the next big trip will be the Balkans.... who’s been. Hit me with tips ploise!! 🤘
We've been hanging out in Leavenworth, WA - climbing and enjoying one of our favorite spots close to home. The time has come though, and we're making a mad dash to the vanlife gathering. First though, more climbing!!
Preconceptions can be a dangerous thing. You risk arriving in a country with prejudice, or not even going at all. ⠀
But the only reputation we ever get of a country is its political one, and not what it really is on a day to day level. ⠀
A country isn't defined by its leaders, by its political decisions and by its votes. A country is defined by its people, and their hospitality, and its culture, and its landscape. ⠀
We hear so much in the news and these fallacies linger for such a long time that they become sayings. Not to say there isn't an element of truth in a story, but there are good people and not so good people wherever you go in the world. ⠀
"Don't go to Ukraine, the war is dangerous." ⠀
"Don't go to Romania, you'll get robbed by gypsies." ⠀
"Don't go to Albania it's just a war-torn, communist country." ⠀
But these are just superstitious words repeated so often they appear true. And they do not mention the kindness, the hospitality, the generosity of people. Or the untouched, unexploited beauty of the earth. ⠀
We've learned not to listen to what people tell you, because prejudgements can be toxic. Instead we choose to explore with our own feet and observe with our own eyes and let the countries we visit speak for themselves. ⠀
