Ahlat (at the Van lake, but on the other side from Van) is an amazing place. In fact it is one huge graveyard, or rather a couple of them, close to each other. Most gravestones are stand-up type, a meter and a half or even two meters high, with geometric patterns, in some cases with pictorial elements involved, like the tree of life. They all date back to the 13th century. The Lonely Planet guide, probably on some authority, suggests that the stonemasons who worked these stones also worked at the Divrigi Great (Ulu) mosque. See my Divrigi gallery. Some "türbeler" scattered between the graveyards are very nice also.
After another visit in September 2006 I have greatly extended this gallery. And even more so after another June 2010 visit. I will rearrange pictures after some other work that needs to be done. #instagram#architecturephotography#architect#photo#tourist#city#perspective#travel#travelblog#travelphotography#travelblog#mytravelgram#instapassport#nationalgeographic#igersworldwide
Yesterday was a whirlwind of events; Parisian strikes, live art shows and of course, wine drinking and picture taking. Today, @ashleymaryart and I took the day to breathe and wonder the streets of Paris at our own leisure with no agenda other than getting some snaps (me) and visiting an art museum (Ashley). Getting lost never felt so good 🇫🇷🖤 #Paris#travelphotography#traveloften#dowhatyoulove
