Our curious calf was so captivated that it followed us back to the boat, here it is just as I was about to leave the water watching me all the way as its 10m long mother (or escort) watches patiently in the distance.
Two thoughts kept musing about in my head during this almost one hour interaction with us...
“Here I am participating in a mutual curiosity with the most intelligent inhabitant of the Ocean Realm - what are these wonderful beings thinking and feeling about us?"
“Here I am with these magnificent creatures, that are completely interested in US, in these same waters that in the past had turned crimson with their own blood as we hunted them almost to extinction"
It was a day of high emotion on our part, I have no idea if the whales simply saw us as a moment of curiosity? I like to think that at some stage they may reflect in their own minds about these more wonderful interactions with us
