Some highly creative people have lived experience of schizophrenia, including Syd Barrett, the early driving force behind the rock band Pink Floyd; John Nash, the father of game theory; and Vaslav Nijinsky, the legendary dancer and choreographer. So what are the links between schizophrenia and musical creativity? Strangely enough, a recent study showed that people with artsy degrees were 90 percent more likely to be hospitalized for schizophrenia than their less creative counterparts. The hospitalizations were most likely to happen at some point during their 30s. Crazy huh? Studies have also looked at prevalence of schizophrenia in certain musical forms - for example classical v jazz v psychedelic rock - and looking at the musicians I have posted, there definitely seem to be a high number of a psychedelic rock composer/musicians who had lived experience of schizophrenia. 🙏🏿❤️🎧 Anyone want to share their thoughts on the connections between schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and types of music or creativity?
What's some of the music you listen to when doing light work?
Classical is one of the many genres I enjoy.
The rawness of the instruments and complexity of the layers of sound, make its unpredictable nature a joy to listen to.

My victory wall. At times, practicing and learning music for gigs, studying new rep for auditions, researching for lectures, and working to piecemeal a paycheck gets to be a lot. It's a lot of work that I love doing, but the pressure can be overwhelming. So around my calendar I decided to hang all my "trophies"; that is, I keep every letter, note, kind word, postcard, memorable prop, and notable posters, and use them to frame my coming projects. .
Every time I look to see what still isn't finished, what goal is not yet achieved, or any time I check on a deadline, I also see the past and all the support from friends, family, patrons, and even myself (one of the notes I wrote to myself). I can reread the well-wishes from the last few years and gather the strength to either get my ass back in a practice room or, more trying still, swallow my pride and go to a day job wherever it may be. .
Thank you to everyone I've worked with and everyone who has come to a show whether at UNT, in Salzburg, around DFW, or even at a convenience store. Thank you to everyone who has helped make any performance worth it to us and to the audience. Thank you to everyone who has been there, whether they realized it or not, to mentor me and make me stay on the path. Thank you all, and get ready for some more coming at ya!

The Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33, for cello and orchestra was the closest Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky ever came to writing a full concerto for cello and orchestra. The style was inspired by Mozart, Tchaikovsky's role model, and makes it clear that Tchaikovsky admired the Classical style very much. However, the Theme is not Rococo in origin, but actually an original theme in the Rococo style...
Uffff! No me quedan fotos.

I’ve been working on the third movement of Mozart in G and honestly getting discouraged. I have felt the pressure of how far I have to go with tempo increases so I’ve increased the tempo too quickly. Today I had to knock back quite a bit to fill in the gaps with my technique. Just goes to show that slow and steady wins the race and you can’t skip steps when you’re learning something...
Today while working on this, I wanted to put it away out of frustration but I decided to just move my focus to something else. So I looked at the phrasing of this unexpected little episode in the middle of it.
I learned this method for figuring out phrasing earlier this year at a flute festival. 1) subdivide with no phrasing or vibrato 2) play as written with no vibrato 3) play with phrasing. You can also add another step of phrasing with no vibrato before the last step. It seems counterintuitive to take out the phrasing to figure out the phrasing but for some reason it helps the ear hear where the phrase wants to go without vibrato and other extra stuff getting in the way.
Rehearsal ends at midnight, the weather is crisp, and the streets are empty and beautifully lit up for the holidays. Perfect time for a little stroll with mi amor to unwind from the emotional roller coaster of #clemenzaditito. I’ve come to love
#Sesto more and more with each day spent in his shoes, but stage fighting with this particular #Tito is no joke. Happy we get to walk home hand in hand after work❤️. #mozart#genius#opera#singersofinstagram#love#thegoodlife
✨🎵Mozart CADENZA!🎵✨This is the newest version of my OWN cadenza for the first mvt. of the D major flute concerto by #Mozart K.314 • Can’t wait to perform this masterpiece next week 2x with the State Philharmonic Orchestra Satu Mare/Szatmárnéneti (RO)😍😍😍 • Rules of writing our own classical cadenzas: there are NO rules besides some basic ideas such as ‘remembering’ the themes and significant moments of the movement, but placing them in a different melodic/harmonic context, experiment with modulation, virtuosity (but don’t make a Paganini caprice of it)😅 Actually there are a lot of books written about how to build a (classical) cadenza, but the more I listened to musicians I really respect (both flutists and oboists ‘cuz this is actually an oboe concerto LOL), I realised that they just also do their thing. I have even heard and seen some dodecaphonic ones too🙈 The bottom line is to sound like an improvisation based on the movement, and I also try not to exaggerate with the length of it. But that is just me. If you guys have different ideas, it’s fine! Just be creative and feel good!🎉 Do you want me to make my cadenzas for all 3 movements AVAILABLE for download? COMMENT below if you need it!⤵️
Have a wonderful Sunday, y’all! And don’t forget to check my stories, I will share a lot of my musical adventures the upcoming days!⭐️
