Na-gah, the mountain sheep ⛰🐑 ⛰
The Paiute people of North America are spread over a wide territory across Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah, Idaho and Oregon. They are an ancient nomadic people who made a living from hunting and gathering and some basic farming. According to Paiute tradition, the North Star was a mountain sheep named Na-gah, who was a great climber. His father Shinoh was very proud of him & gave him a special headdress with two beautiful coiled horns. 🐏
One day Na-gah found a mountain that so steep and high that he could not see the top. ⛰ After a long dangerous & exhausting journey Na-gah finally made it to the height he has never been to, but the way down was blocked by loose stones. He knew he could never return down and would die there out of food & water. “There is no way down and here I must stay until I die,” he said, “But, I have overcome all of the difficulties and I have climbed my greatest mountain and I am proud!” .
Shinoh transformed Na-gah into one fixed star in the night sky of the northern hemisphere. 🌟 The people called him “Qui-am-i Wintook Poot-see” which means North Star. Na-Gah became a beacon of light that enables the lost and wanderers of the earth to find their way through the night and gave hope to those climbers of mountains.
We went for a little New Years drive today and I snuck a picture of these cuties and I also found some pretty frozen bubbles. Nice way to kick off 2019 and now I am going to be slightllllllllly cliche and actually try to get back into yoga. I love ‘Yoga With Adrienne’ (mainly because I live in the middle of nowhere so driving to take a yoga class isn’t really convenient, and also she’s hilarious!) but anyway she does a 30 Days of Yoga starting every January 1st so I’m going to sign off of here and boot up the old laptop and try to not pull a hamstring haha!
Have you ever tried @yogawithadriene or do you have another online Yoga teacher you love??
Another great day of Photography, I stopped in at two Photographic Galley exhibitions! and “on the way” and back shot some more of my own images. First the Cochrane Camera Club (CCC) held a fantastic one-day show at the historic Cochrane Ranch. The CCC is a great club and the quality of the work was tremendous! Then I went out to Canmore to see a former colleague’s work. Jon Handforth was not a photographer when I worked with him, but he sure is now!
Great black and white art.
As for my shots, I stopped and tried the new lens on some Rocky Mountain Sheep (sorry no Moose yet) and one youngster made my day for sitting so pretty in the afternoon sun. The last light of the day and the sliver moon, was on the mountains surrounding Canmore, what a beautiful place! Enjoy.
