There can’t be many places where you can take a photo with three acclaimed sculptures by world-famous artists in it, and have them all be overshadowed by a building, but I would be lying if I said any of the art inside or outside the Guggenheim in Bilbao was half as interesting or impressive as the building itself... #GuggenheimBilbao#Guggenheim#Architecture#Bilbao#BasqueCountry#TheNotQuiteNomad
There are UFO sightings every day, but they aren’t the kind you imagine.
Instead of alien spaceships flying high in the sky, I am talking about Futuro Houses: UFO-shaped prefab homes originally built in the late 1960s. These rare homes are located all around the world.
Built from a plan by Finnish designer Matti Suuronen, these approximately 600 square foot saucer shaped homes were designed to revolutionize the housing industry. Less than 100 of these homes were built. ...
The location of this Futuro home is above 6000 feet above sea level on a rocky "summit" in the town of Idyllwild, California. 🚀👽🛸

If from the outside the sweeping curves dominate the overall impression, on the inside they manifest themselves in a shyer manner. With the exception of the main living room of the larger apartment, most of the rooms are surprisingly orthogonal, with the curves being resolved by the circulation and the toilets.
The pilotis are a delight on their own: by locating two groups of extremely thin, elongated hexagonal pillars in curved rows, Niemeyer created a fantastic openness that integrate the ground floor with the square. Note how the entrance is purposely occupy a minimum area.
Plantas térrea, e pavimento tipo do Edifício Niemeyer. Belo Horizonte, 1954.
