Freediving is a way to RECONNECT to the ocean. HBO Real Sports said "it's part extreme sport, part Zen meditation." For the Sama Bajau of the Southern Philippines, it is a way of life. Their bodies have evolved such that they can spend a much longer time and dive to greater depths than some of the world's best competitive freedivers. All on one life giving breath, in the hopes of catching fish. What some do for recreation, they do for survival.
Not only are the Sama Bajau masters of freediving, they are master craftsmen creating their own wooden fins, spears and goggles ("antipara" pictured here) for fishing.

I remember, when I was a kid, we would walk to this river and swim in it, while our Lola and Lolo watched. It used to be a lot narrower then and the water was crystal clear. But when a typhoon hit our land in December, my Lolo’s house was washed out and the river got a lot wider. My Lolo is still there but my Lola is long gone, however I remember everything as if it was just yesterday ❤️ So good to be back home.

Honestly, I am grateful for the chances to be in places I didn’t plan on going. Also, this falls is located in the heart of a nature conservation area the middle of a mountainous region of Northern #Mindanao...which makes it a pretty cool place to be. Also, I had proper all-terrain sandals in the car, I just didn’t think to change into them before the hike. Haha 😄🍁(Credits to the photographer)
The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people. I read it once, and its message swam deep.
These people once shaped the past of our homeland #Mindanao. The caretakers of the past belief, protecting it from the inevitable progress and change. Respect 'em. Appreciate and always be nice to them. They hold much bigger role than you think. ☺
Come and try visiting our Indigenous People here in Magsaysay Park. They came from far provinces and mountains across Mindanao. They have their local products here, like organic dragon fruits, cocoas and their crafts! Happy Kadayawan Festival ya'll! Hope you guys are having fun! 🖐
11:35pm and I am having the time of my life in the mountains of #Mindanao. Yes, I am cold... but this 3-1 coffee is saving me and energising me to make it to #Davao! The parade starts at 6am... I might get no sleep tonight. But it will be worth it! KAYA NA KADAYAWAN!!! #BecomingFilipino#Davao#SuperTugnaw

With the kids being back at school you can never be too prepared in the head lice department. 💥 V-Comb… A simple and user-friendly, reusable and allergy-free lice treatment for both children and adults. One-of-a-kind experience! 👌👍❤ It's best to swim with the jellyfish early in the morning since they are most visible at that time of the day. They're transparent so it's harder to spot them when daylight is so on point. We got there at noon so we weren't able to see as much but we felt them on our legs 😱. A bit scary but definitely worth the try! 😉
Now I'm craving for more adventures 😍
After climbing a mountain I realised @bretmaverick_ could probably use a bath! Sobrang baho akong amigo!!! CHAR!!! So we decided to swing by the Blue Lagoon in Datu Odin Sinsuat #Maguindanao. Even though it wasn’t the bluest today (due to recent heavy rains), it was definitely still mystical! Baho no More! #BecomingFilipino#Mindanao#ARMM
