By @pie_aerts - I’m home.
After 6 months & 7 countries I felt I needed a little break.
Every trip comes with highs & lows, so did this one and when looking back on the last 6 months there’s a top-3 of ‘moments’ that resonate most:
1. 11 days of learning about Buddhism in Nepal
2. 2 weeks of hiking the Himalayas
3. Our 21-day expedition through Papua
I mean all the other destinations have been great too, but not even close to the soothing impact of those 3 above. Three significant periods of time totally disconnected from modern-day reality and from the ruthless 24/7 impact of social media & technology.
Because many of us, myself included, spend their days filling in every available space, cramming in tasks, responding to messages and using every single minute to ‘do something’.
Why do we fear empty space?
Why are we so addicted to continual busyness and non-stop distraction?
Why are we all running from silence?
Is it because stillness highlights the uncertainty and insecurity of life?
The unpredictable nature of being?
Whatever the reason is, experiencing those 3 moments mentioned above, have learned me to appreciate silence in a whole new way.
They have taught me that being bored can be amazing too and they made me ‘really’ feel things again.
As a result, I noticed that during those 3 ‘moments’ I felt more happy, more alive and more inspired than ever before. I had more energy and slept like a baby.
I felt free.
So I guess in the end, space is not something to be feared, but rather something to be treasured.
Anyone recognising this?
