DRY VS DEHYDRATION
Dry skin is a skin type, dehydrated skin is a condition. Dry skin has a lack of lipids (oils) where as a dehydrated skin is a lack of water. It is not overly common to see a true dry skin, most people experience dehydration which can follow with barrier dysfunction causing other issues like rosacea and inflammation.
Tips to repair a dehydrated skin: - increase water
- use a hyularonic acid - avoid stimulants like coffee, alcohol
- avoid harsh scrubs and exfoliants
- treatments to increase hydration to the connective tissues and below the epidermis
Who else is guilty of feeling like a granular scrub makes their skin feel clean and smooth? While it’s actually increasing sensativity from breaking down the barrier causing our skin to become impaired and allow free radical damage, spread of bacteria and TEWL (trans epidermal moisture loss), try a chemical exfoliant instead💁🏼♀️ with little enzymes that eat away at the dead skin like little Pac-Man instead of scrubbing the s*** out of our skin to get that smooth texture!
This was one of my favourite #weddings to shoot. This beautiful couple came all the way from the UK to get married in #mandurah & i didnt get to meet them till the day before the wedding. We communicated via email & the day was perfect. They were married on mandurah foreshore then we went to the beach for #weddingphotos such a pleasure to meet these two @made_with_love_photography
NOURISH YOUR SKIN
A current regular occurrence is seeing dehydrated, sensitised skins with the barrier function impaired
What can be done? ▫️HYDRATE! Make sure you are using a HA (hyularonic Acid) to draw moisture to the skin. Dehydration is caused by lack of water, not oil. So as it cools down we are all guilty of consuming less water but the hydration is also drawn out of our skin! When we use a HA to increase water levels in the skin will quickly increase hydration leaving your skin feeling hydrated and supple which heals the barrier function causing the skin to be less sensative and keep it functioning healthy! ▫️EFAS - essential fatty acids (omegas) if your not already- start taking your fish oils daily, to help reduce inflammation and support gut health, taking EFAs will make a difference in your skins glow while we’re feeling a bit dull
▫️Oils! I love skin oils right now that are full of antioxidants and anti inflammatory properties to lather on and make our skin feel rich in nutrients and moisture
