As tea rooms go, this one is up there. Due to my lame ass “lifestyle change”, scones no longer fit into my diet on Monday-fridays so I didn’t go in this time. But I popped in when I visited Rye last summer and really did enjoy the scones. Home made of course.
So who is a fan of afternoon tea? Do you like the sandwiches best, the scones or the cake? I’m all about the scones and today I use my mum’s recipe to make my own, which I think she got from my grandma...
When we were younger going to my grandparents was always a treat, my grandma would put on a right good spread (whilst grandad watched the football). We would always begin with a roast, you couldn’t beat it. Followed usually by trifle, the queen of puddings in my opinion. My sister and cousin used to swap trifle layers with each other, one didn’t like cream and one didn’t like custard, so it was a win win for all. Oh and the rifle was always decorated with cake decorations, not sure if that’s normal but that’s how it goes in my family. Jelly diamonds, sprinkles and silver balls.
I actually used to steal cake decorations from the kitchen when I was younger. I could shovel down a whole pot of jelly diamonds no problem 🤷🏻♀️ safe to say I’ve grown out of that habit but still got a soft spot for anything sweet....
