OG Original SJP Lo-Lifes Mr.Raisin (R.I.P) rocking a Polo by Ralph Lauren “Scribble” Rugby, Friz-Lo wearing Profile and Boostin Billy (R.I.P) in Polo as usual chilling in front of Woolworth on Utica Ave. Dudes made this Woolworth put iron poles in the sidewalk cement in front of the store because late nights dudes would steal cars ( B-Bill’s idea of course lol! ) and drive them through the glass front doors and take all the Nintendos and electronics Lol! Y’all think this was just about collecting Polo? Y’all have no idea the levels of savagery that occurred on a daily basis. PHOTO CIRCA.1989 Crown Heights, Brooklyn NYC.
The ultimate boosters tool was The Jansport knapsack. This backpack is one of the main utensils used to boost Millions of dollars worth of Polo. The “Up the back” boosting technique was an ingenious creation that revolutionized shoplifting. Instead of putting clothes in the bag we would throw the clothes up under the back of our jackets. The backpack would cover the bulge making it easier to walk out the store undetected. [DISCLAIMER: KIDS DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME] The “Backpacker” culture was crafted from the Boosting culture. We would sometimes go to the club wearing these colorful knapsacks matching our outfits so people naturally thought it was a fashion statement and mimicked it, not knowing the true use of it. If you look at the photos of the timeline of rap you’ll see that the backpacker culture came into effect right during this era.

Sponsored by live boosters from BK. Back in the 80s and early 90s if you saw someone with these three arrows on their jacket you knew automatically that they were part of a Boostin squad or affiliated to one. This was one of my favorite brands of Skiwear. You wasn’t an official booster until you caught your first Descente.
