Here’s one I made for #GlassMovie, out in cinemas today.
I’ve been thinking that I might try to make more movie-themed cocktails this year because those are always fun, but then I got see @glassmovie a couple of days ago and felt inspired.
Following from his films Unbreakable (2000) and Split (2016), writer-director M. Night Shyamalan brings together three central characters for this comic-book-themed crossover. Which says to me that I need to make a drink featuring three equal ingredients.
Which says to me that I need to make a Negroni riff.
I used Boë Violet Gin to represent @samuelljackson’s bold and often purple-dressed Mr Glass and, to keep the drink as clear as its namesake, I swapped Campari for Italicus, a complex liqueur to match the identity-crisis-ridden hero, David Dunn (played by Bruce Willis).
Then for the last third, to represent @jamesmcavoyrealdeal’s multiple-personalitied ‘Horde’, I SPLIT (you see what I did there) between a dry vermouth and a white vermouth.
Then, in honour of the filmmaker himself, I garnished with the twistiest of twists.
This is a Shyamalanegroni.
1oz @boe_gin Violet Gin
1/2oz Dry @belsazar_vermouth
1/2oz White @belsazar_vermouth
Stir all ingredients with ice and strain over a large ice cube - which really should have been much clearer, given the theme - and garnish with a lemon twist.

Today is my mom’s birthday, so I’m celebrating her with a wonderful variation on her favorite cocktail, the daiquiri. This is definitely one of the most delicious daiquiris I’ve ever made, thanks to Koval Distillery’s unique Chrysanthemum Honey Liqueur and Scrappy’s phenomenal Bergamot Bitters. Can’t wait to visit my mom this weekend and make her one of these!
2 oz white rum (@cruzanrum)
1 oz lime juice
.5 oz @kovaldistillery Chrysanthemum Honey Liqueur
.5 oz simple syrup
2 dashes @scrappysbitters Bergamot Bitters
Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a chrysanthemum or other edible flower.
The Gin Ginger Smash. I get the feeling that I just like everything better with gin. I sip it and it just makes me happy and relaxed.
It's a good thing that so many of the leftover ingredients I had from my holiday cocktails fit so well with this drink. The apple cider and the cranberries are just wonderful additions.
2 thick slices fresh ginger
1/4 - 1/2 oz simple syrup
1 & 1/2 oz Plymouth gin
1 & 1/2 oz apple cider
3/4 oz lemon juice
MUDDLE cranberries. ADD ginger. MUDDLE. ADD rest of ingredients. SHAKE. STRAIN into glass of choice. I've used a rocks or highball, filled with the appropriate ice cube.
Light and Breezy
1/2 oz. Lillet Blanc (@lillet)
1/4 oz. Crème de Pamplemousse rose (@giffardcanada)
3/4 oz. Spritz syrup (@34oztonic)
4 oz. elderflower tonic (@fevertreemixers)
Here's an extra low-ABV cocktail for you if you're trying to take it easy on the booze this January. I love the fruity and floral combination of flavours, grounded by the bittersweet profile of the Spritz syrup. The Spritz syrup from 3/4 Oz. does well to provide the refreshingly bitter taste of an Italian-style aperitif. While some may compare it to Campari, I find the syrup to be closer to Aperol, as it has a bright, orangey taste. Lillet Blanc for an aromatic touch, and Pamplemousse for a bit of tartness to balance out the sweetness of the elderflower tonic. If you can't get a hold of Fever Tree's elderflower tonic, try some St-Germain in their Premium Indian or Naturally Light tonic water!
