International Humanitarian day is something that has a lot of meaning for the Y. With Over $130,000 raised this year with our events and donors, this organization strives to improve the lives of as many people as possible. Offering an inclusive environment, no matter what the circumstances any individual has had to endure, is the primary goal of the YMCA of Okanagan. Thank you to all that have contributed and keep on contributing to our community. The effect you have on the region and on the lives of people we help is overwhelmingly positive.

About last night... I get a fresh dance number, song, or theatre act a few nights a week.
I hear people talking about how this generation is lacking creativity and addicted to their screens?!
My experience has been the exact opposite my kiddos are far more artistically driven and creative than I have ever been.
They light up every evening with their music and laughter.
Thanks to Grandma for the piano. Grandpa for the guitar and karaoke machine.
Our home is filled with music, dance, art....I cannot draw a stick figure, and am not creative so I have no idea where they get it from.
We honestly cannot and should not live this rollercoaster that is business without the support of one another! 🤗 #communityovercompetition

Took a trip up to Myra Canyon where we spent the afternoon taking pictures while we explored the tunnels & snow covered trestles!

NEVER GIVE UP! Don’t do it, keep going. If you’re giving 80% give 110% . If you want to lose a certain amount of weight come a certain date, and you don’t show up and put in the work you will not change, for me my example is my job. If I don’t give 110% effort I won’t reach my targets come game day. Same thing goes for fitness I know it’s hard, I know change is scary trust me I’ve been there and I am there but with other areas of my life. Being comfortable won’t get you anywhere you have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to change. Tracking everything, meal prepping, going to the gym, being careful of what you do and do not eat is hard yes. But so is feeling gross, being over weight, hating yourself, having no confidence not feeling good in outfits. In my personal opinion which one would you rather have? Yes both are hard but one brings you success and a brighter future. The ultimate choice is yours. But trust me when I say this even though everyone says it, in a year from now you’re going to wish you started today 🐸 🍵
So GO OUT THERE AND GIVE IT YOUR ALL. If you give it your all you will beat yourself on game day and you will win your victory of whatever your goal may be. Remember that everything takes time but if you keep going and you don’t give up through all those hard times. You’ll make it. I’m living proof of it, everyone thought I was going to die including myself growing up. I attempted suicide 4 times, I got bullied so bad that I dropped out of high school and never went back. Police were involved, school board was involved. No one did a thing, I was pushed down two flights of stairs, I had my bike torn apart and put on the bike rack with no bolts in it so when I sat on it in front of the whole school it broke and I was labeled to “fat to ride a bike” I was told I’d never lose weight, that I would never help others and that I was worthless. I PROVED TO MYSELF , that they were wrong. It’s not your turn. GO PROVE THEM WRONG. It’s not their life, you are living it’s YOURS. You have the power to change it, the question is, how bad do you want it?

“I eat healthy, why can’t I lose weight?”
Well it’s not about what you are eating, rather how much you are eating.
A lot of people think they need to consume 1200 calories a day and they are consistently eating this amount for an extended period of time. I don't know why everyone thinks the magical number of calories you should consume is 1200 for the rest of your life.
What often happens is those who consume this little of food over a period of time start to experience negative metabolic adaptations. This is where your body adapts to the need to consume 1200 calories a day just to MAINTAIN weight. This means that you would have to consume an even lower amount of calories just to LOSE weight!
Can you imagine eating only ~900 calories a day to achieve your weight loss goals?
It's unnecessary suffering to be honest.
So if you aren't dieting but plan to in the future for maybe for a wedding, or something... it's important to take the time period before dieting just as seriously by speeding up your metabolic rate. This is where you eat more over a period of time.
Yes, you need to eat more food to speed up your metabolism. Don’t freak out! If you take what you are eating right now & slowly add more food, over time your body will adapt. Just like you adapted your body to maintain weight consuming 1200 calories, you can adapt it to maintain weight consuming 1600, 1800, maybe 2,000 or even 3,000?

I haven't dieted in 2 years and since then, I have been making these calorie increases slowly. I am now maintaining weight eating ~2600 calories a day.
Why do we want to do this?
Over time it allows you to not suffer as much when you go to diet. You may find that you can lose weight eating the 1200 calories a day, maybe 1600 or 1,800. Can you imagine if you were able to lose weight eating 1800 calories a day versus the torturous 900 calories a day?
Seems like a no brainer.
