This was my favorite place of the year. I funked up my ankle hiking 14,000 feet then had to be CARRIED down for TWO MILES. That wasn’t the best, BUT then I had bacon, eggs, toast, and black coffee in this amazing lil’ outdoor kitchen while watching quail run up the mountains that was the backyard of this place.
It was freezing out, but the water was hot, so taking an outdoor shower felt amazing, even with a limp.
I may or may not have been serenaded with guitar by my host. I can’t remember if that happened or if my imagination filled that part in. My host gave me the most memorable bear hug of the year. That part is definitely true.
I’ve been dying to go back since I left.
I’ve been fantasizing about buying a plot of land here, having a little retreat to call my own, a place where family and friends can also escape, a simple place hours outside of civilization, surrounded by weirdos and ranchers, yet still a place that gets two day Amazon Prime deliveries. (Some kind of heaven.)
I haven’t really considered the logistics of this, but if I were to dream really big in 2019, that’d be one thing I’d want to manifest.
EDIT: It is confirmed that my host did sing a song and play his guitar, but it was not, as the word serenade implies to some, romantic.
And that’s not what I intended to say. (Imagine my host as a country, older version of The Dude in The Big Lebowski... Not exactly the vision of romance. Well, not for me, but cool.) K, bye now.

Even the graffiti in #Austin is cool. 🌵Passing by this today I wondered how many people felt a tug of guilt that they aren’t living their best life, and how many felt like it was a high five from the universe. I love this town because authenticity is embraced, whatever that means in the moment...whether it’s character, art, music, (my new handmade, no label boots from #heritageboots ), etc. I’m glad to be living a great story...and to be part of Austin’s. 🤘🏻I hope you are living a great story too. 💙
