Halebidu series 2 - Depictions
2) Gajasura Samhara
Gajasura Samhara Murti is the image of Lord Shiva dancing on the head of the elephant headed demon called Gajasura. He is supposed to have cut open the body of the elephant demon and danced on his head. He is with eight arms with upper two arms holding open the elephant's stomach, The next two hands holding the trishoola and damaru, another two holding agni and his torso, the lower two hands posing in extreme tribhanga with one leg bent up at the hip and bent at the knee and the other leg firmly placed on the head of the asura. To the right is Nandi and to the left two ganas playing mrudanga can be seen in the lower part of the carvings.
According to one legend, Gajasura a 'good' demon impressed lord Shiva with his penance. When the destroyer appeared before him and asked him for what he wished, the asura asked him to reside him in his stomach. The lord agreed and, ofcourse without thinking of the consequences like so many times and for which he has earned the name of Bhola Shankar. With Shiva away goddess Parvathi who had no idea about the incident was worried and approached Lord Vishnu to find her husband. The savior realized that Shiva was inside Gajasura's stomach and devised a plan to get him back. He transformed Nandi - Shiva's consort in to a dancing bull and dressed himself as a flutist and went to the court of the demon. Gajasura impressed with the flutist's show told him to ask for whatever he wanted. When the flutist asked him to liberate Mahadev, he fell to his feet realizing that it was none other than Lord Vishnu. After liberating Shiva, the demon requested the lord to take his head to Kailasha and he compiled.
When Shiva beheads his own son when he stopped Shiva from entering to Kailasa, then Gajasura’s head was fixed to the headless torso and This is how Ganesha was born and Shiva wears Gajasura’s skin as hide, and thus is referred as Gajacharmambara.

REDBULL gives you wingssssss. I spotted a KINGFISHER with wings .
Chirtadurga fort is well known fort n district in Karnataka,it's mainly famous for it's seven layers structure build over 200 years(15-1700) and it's also famous for the last king madkari nayaka n onka obvva for his reign.
This fort was also captured by Hyder Ali (father of tipu sultan) n took over by britishers after 17-19 years of his rule over the district.
If u love history n monuments then chitradurga is a must visit for you,we also took a long route to visit this place (while going to Goa)as we love our history and heritage,u can also plan for hampi along with chitradurga as hampi is 130-150 km away from chirtadurga, there are many water falls in between chirtadurga to hampi, while visiting this place we stayed a night in a 🏨 hote panchvati (comes under Karnataka tourism) it was clean but too far n towards the Goa (recommend hotel panchvati for night halt)
Best season to visit September- fab.
How to reach-car,train,bus and cab.
U can also add few more place to visit as Goa ,karvan, sirsi is close by to this place.
Near by the main temple, there's a public boat service running from sunrise till sunset -officially- that brings you to the other side of the river. ❌ We felt cheated as they charged us 50rs per person+50rs per backpack for a ride that lasts 1 min (1,4eu/person, when it shouldn't be more than 0,2eu/person)‼️⠀
Anyway, you we arrived to the tourist chilling area. Cafes, restaurants, huts, tents, shops, agencies, bike rental stalls, between a mix of western backpackers, hippy-but-not-hippy travellers, post-military service israelis and indian young tourists.⠀
We slept at Bobby's (600rs=7,5eu/double room with private bathroom) and at the Goan Corner (250rs=3eu/matress with mosquito net on the rooftop). You can't book these places online, so you better show up early. ⠀
We didn't felt like staying there chilling, smoking or climbing rocks (great place for climbers) so we rented a moto -mopad- (200rs=2,5eu/day+78rs=1eu/fuel litre) to discover the sorroundings. It was the best decision we made.. 🛵⠀
We found ourself back in the real and rural India again 😍
