Both girls will be moving up on the age bracket to find a match on this weekends tournament and they are preparing for it in many ways. One of those ways is by watching videos of those who inspire them and one that gets replayed frequently is those of the incredible professor @leovieirabjj . Watching him glide on the mats using awesome and crazy moves with impeccable timing helps keep us focused and encouraged. We were so lucky to have been able get a picture with him last month since he had just returned from a trip that day. Real down to earth and a great guy, thank you for the picture and for having us that day. #wearecheckmat#leovieira#honored

Week 8 out of 10 for my NASM certification. Nearly done. I have maybe 700 note cards that flow sheet you see and the last 4 chapters of the book to finish... Memorize and start with practical application, there is alot information here, alot of which I knew but didn't know how deep it actually goes and this is just the beggining #goals
"Nana Korobi Ya Oki" - fall down seven, get up eight, This morning I was totally surprised to earn my purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from Professors Chris Reed @greatodinsbeard and Joey Best of Ybor City Jiu Jitsu Club (YCJJC), alongside my friends, @patrickajones@crogers1884 and Mark earning their blue belts! To make it this far literally requires years of blood, sweat and a lot of tears. It also requires a lot of support in the form of training partners and from family members!
My journey into jiu jitsu began in 2005 with Black Belt Professor Eduardo De Lima. I learned more in my first introductory class about a real fight, than in all of my previous years of martial arts training. I trained with Eduardo for just over 2 years and earned my blue belt. Unfortunately, I had to put jiu jitsu on hiatus in late 2007 due to life complications. It would be nearly 7 years before I would step on the mats again and I might not have made it back if it weren't for the prodding from my long time friend, and another Eduardo disciple, Professor Mike Geery of New Port Richey Jiu Jitsu Academy. I trained with Professor Mike for 3 years, before deciding the 6 AM morning class at YCJJC would allow me to train 5 mornings per week with the “zombie squad” before work. I had an injury early this year that sidelined me for 6 weeks and I did not know if I would be able to make it back on the mats!
This morning was very surreal for me and honestly I am still numb. Friends lift Friends up, and there are many of my friends I wanted to see get their belts today too! Thank you to Chris and Joey for seeing the potential in me that I do not always see in myself. I will do my best to represent the expectations I have for being a YCJJC purple belt. Oss! #19 #jiujitsu#purplebelt#jiujitsulifestyle#ycjjc
