The Isa Khan Tomb complex is a walled area adjacent to Humayun’s Tomb in New Delhi, India, and is the resting place of Isa Khan Niazi, a noble of influence at the court of two rulers of the Suri dynasty, Sher Shah Suri and his successor Islam Shah Suri, who fought the Mughal Empire.
The tomb of Isa Khan, positioned within an enclosed octagonal garden, was built during his lifetime between 1547 and 1548. It later served as a burial place for his entire family.
Isa Khan’s Tomb is beautifully adorned with varnished tiles, ornate awnings, lattice windows and ample verandahs held up by pillars. The roof containing the huge central dome is crowned with an inverted lotus. On the western side of the tomb lies an impressive mosque in red sandstone, known as Isa Khan's Mosque.
Isa Khan's Tomb is a wonderful piece of architectural finesse, and one of the best and earliest examples of sunken garden style tombs in India.
