If you haven’t noticed, I kind of love public art and the @highlinenyc always has a fantastic collection that changes from time to time. Spotted these last night while I was walking with @pushypixl. The last piece represents decaying colonial architecture. Nicely done @highlineartnyc!

My family came to New York from Puerto Rico in 1960. It was hard for my parents to find an apartment because no one wanted to rent to a large Puerto Rican family. We wound up in Williamsburg. I did not experience any discrimination for being a lesbian, but I did for being a person of color.
I was not at Stonewall, but I knew what was happening. What made it easier for me to come out to my parents was that my mother had a bisexual sister and a bisexual cousin. My father's only sister was transgender.
I always liked girls. And when I was 18, a gay male friend would take me down to places on Nostrand Avenue. There I could meet women. By 1974, every Tuesday, I was going to Bonnie and Clyde, which was a lesbian bar. I went to Hunter College, where I studied to be a licensed guidance counselor. I briefly volunteered at Hetrick Martin, and my advice to the young people was to always stay true to themselves. This was during the AIDS epidemic. And although I knew nobody personally with AIDS, I did an internship at Bellevue Hospital in the methadone clinic. So I did meet people there with AIDS, and at that time, there was no cocktail like today. So it was very sad. Everyone died.
My first relationship with a woman lasted 19 years. After that, I met my wife 24 years ago, and we have been married for the last 10 years. We have always marched in the Gay Pride March and the day before in the Dyke March. We will do the same this year. I am very strong and work out every day. I hate the winter, so we hope to travel someplace warm, like Spain, Taiwan, or India during the two coldest months. Then we'll return to New York City.
#ad Who else is excited it's finally summer? I'm so happy I can break out my dresses and shorts again! That means I also have to up my sunscreen game - admittedly I wasn't too great about applying sunscreen when I was younger but now it's a must-have product for me.
Thank you to @coola for keeping my skin safe and healthy with their Tropical Coconut Sunscreen Spray and Classic Body Sunscreen this summer! They smell amazing, are vegan and paraben-free, and and even though they're designed for long active days in the sun they're still light enough for daily use :) As I get older I realize how important sunscreen is so I'm so happy I discovered this product duo ❤️ HOW TO USE THE PRODUCTS: First apply the lotion and then use the spray to re-apply throughout the day. Super easy! #coola
I know you’ve missed my food posts.
I’ve been craving oatmeal recently so I decided to try this #grainfree fo’meal recipe from @bewellbykelly. 😋 It’s rare for me to find a breakfast that keeps me full until my break at work ( #broadwaywoes ) This hot breakfast cereal kept me full for 5 hours while providing sustainable energy for my physical work day.
In a large non-stick skillet, heat 1tbs of coconut oil, add 2 cups of full fat coconut milk, and let simmer. Stir in 3tbs hemp hearts, 2tbs black chia seeds, 2tbs flax meal, and let thicken. Stir in a serving of your favorite protein powder (mine is in my stories). Once it’s almost at oatmeal consistency, stir in a 🅷🅴🅰🅿🅸🅽🅶 tbs of peanut butter. Stir in a dash of vanilla right before removing from heat. Today, I topped mine with strawberries and banana but this recipe is so versatile, you could top it with almost anything. I will include the link to the original recipe in my bio! 🍓🍌
