One thing I’m learning along this journey of mine is, you don’t have to give up all of the foods you love for rabbit food.
I swap out less healthy ingredients for their healthier counterparts, and control my portions.
Take this morning’s breakfast, for example.
My daughter LOVES to make waffles. She’s twelve, and has her very own waffle iron. She takes pride in whipping up different waffle recipes. Especially, when they’re a hit with the family.
This morning, she made us the blueberry variety. I ripped mine in half, and tossed a few extra berries to the top, instead of syrup. I really don’t need that, anyway. The blueberries are sweet enough, for me.
Then, there’s my coffee. We all know I love me a little bit of coffee with my cup of creamer. 🤷🏼♀️ It’s yummy, okay! The problem is, creamer is packed full of sugars, fat and calories. It’s a no bueno, when your coffee is 300-400 calories, because you’ve got yourself dang near a cup of creamer in it. I’ve swapped my unhealthy addiction for Premier Protein shakes mixed in, instead. I tried sugar free creamer, but prefer the taste and added protein of the shake, but even that sugar free swap takes off around 60 calories, per serving. It’s all a matter of taste.
You don’t have to eat salads for every meal. You don’t have to give up your favorite meals. You most certainly don’t have to starve.
Your body is your temple. Nourish it with healthy ingredients, and measure out the proper serving.

Be forewarned: this is a bit of a “proud” moment. This is more than just a “plate of food.” Those close to me know that I have never cooked, nor did I ever lift a trying-finger. I literally “hated” it. I ate on-the-go, easy to grab foods, with no desire to commit to a healthy nutritional lifestyle. Until something clicked - it was “time” I told myself. It was time I started taking action in order to become the person I so desired to be. For two years I “wanted” to become a bikini competitor, but found a million excuses in the book not to try. Self-doubt, fear, and lack of will are to name a few...until I stepped up to the plate and decided to start putting myself, and more importantly, my health FIRST. I’m now five weeks in to having a phenomenal and supportive coach (@taracarlton_fit ) who is guiding me through proper reversal dieting and workout regimes. I’m no where near prepping for the stage yet, but I’m taking the baby-steps in order to do so. Again, this picture represents so much more than a “plate of food.” These (amazing egg muffins that I baked/cooked), though it may sound cheesy, represent my diligence (along with the many, many other things I have COOKED this last five weeks). This plate, along with all meal prepping, represent my willingness for better change and my commitment to make it happen - change for a better me, a healthier life, and dedication to learning while keeping an open mind. I advise anyone and everyone, to go after what you fear. Chase it like a while cat. Push self-doubt and self-criticism to the curb and choose to be the best you. Cheers to meal prepping!!! Trying to find some zen today. Maybe that’s in a pastry bag of grout.
Had a bit of a breakdown this AM. House is getting to me. All the work that needs to be done and no one shows up to do it and when they do they suck at it. Holdups and hiccups surround me.
Just want a day, a week a month of calm. It will come I know. Just smile and breath and pace myself. Be here now & in it always. For everything will be just as it should. FYI Sometimes looking at the big picture is not a good idea.
Real talk: I let my cheat meal on Friday night turn into cheat day on Saturday 😑🤭. It’s happened before and probably won’t be the last, but I know where I made the mistakes and I know how to try and avoid them for the upcoming week:
1) plug into the #tiucommunity each day - especially on the weekends for extra motivation and to remind myself of my goals •
2) Eat breakfast AND take a protein shake to work on Saturdays. I only have two left in the dance season, but I can’t go five hours again without nourishment. My students and my body will thank me when I’m not hangry 😏 •
3) Limit my wine intake to one glass during the week and one on the weekend. When I have two or more in one sitting, I let my nutrition take a downward plunge and before I know it, I’ve eaten an entire box of cheez its and have the oven turned on ready to bake cookies. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ •
The first step is just recognizing what I’m doing and having a plan to combat. Just finished my workout so that is back together and heading into the kitchen for a smoothie and to write out my grocery list for the week. Self care isn’t always fun, but it is having discipline to do what’s good for yourself. I didn’t really feel like going for a jog, but I made myself. Glad I did because I ended up on my favorite beautiful back road. ☀️ #selfcare#icandoit#socanyou
