The Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument in Fort Greene Park can be seen down the blocks of nearby streets, peaking over and between the buildings of new Brooklyn. Regardless of its modern visibility, it stands as a memorial for more than 11,500 American Revolutionary War prisoners who died on British ships to be thrown into the nearby bay.
