Basil II, the Bulgar Slayer, was the Byzantine Emperor from 976 to 1025. He was from the Macedonian dynasty of Byzantine monarchs. Basil was said to be stocky and muscular with light blue eyes, and looked formidable on horseback, perhaps not so much as shown here. He was at war his entire life, in the east and north. He earned the epiphet "Bulgar Slayer" by winning several desicive victories against them, and effectively ruling them - this led many of the Bulgars' allies to recognise Basil as overlord.

It was a strange and fascinating event in history when Gaiseric, King of the Vandals, established a Vandal Kingdom in North Africa, Sardinia and Corsica, Majorca, Ibiza and Menorca. So far from their homeland the Vandals migrated to another world during the migration period, and became a force to be reckoned with as a land and naval power. Having been to Majorca several times, experienced it's rugged and rocky beauty and beaming sun, I've always thought how strange and incredible it was that an ancient Germanic people had conquered and lived there.

Built as a residence in 1850 the "Casa Diaz Flores" in La Orotava served as an inn between 1862 and 1901. As “Pension La Govea” and later on “ Hotel Hespérides”, it was above all a destination for wealthy Britains. Among its famous guests were the explorer Richard Francis Burton, the waterolourist Elizabeth Murray and the botanical painter Marianne North.
In the 18th century, a Jesuit church stood on the grounds of the Casa Díaz Flores. It is said that remains of this church can still be found inside of the building as well as in its garden. 🇩🇪

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world, with an area of almost 70,000 m². A UNESCO World Heritage site, it consists of a large-scale composition of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings of various architectural styles, from the remains of Romanesque-style buildings from the 10th century through Gothic modifications of the 14th century. The famous Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik was responsible for extensive renovations in the time of the First Republic (1918-1938). Good Times was a comedic glimpse into the African American experience in low-income neighborhoods in major US cities during the 1970s. #GoodTimes was actually television’s first African American two-parent family sitcom. Quite possibly it was inspired by Langston Hughes’ “Ballot To Roosevelt” poem in which he addressed the relationship of African Americans and the impatient yet hopeful dependence on political leadership to improve our disenfranchised communities. 📺 #itoosingamericafilm
