When asked what causes are near and dear to her heart, @_sierrasullivan_ says: “I recently discovered the undiscovered artists of yesterday and tomorrow in an art studio of a California-based Jewish Community Center where they are recognized as one of the top five senior art programs in the world. This program gives the elderly residents who receive long term care the opportunity to learn how to create art such as paintings, sculptures and drawings. For some of the residents, they were creating their first masterpiece in their 90s! And let me tell you…..they are BEAUTIFUL pieces of art. I’m passionate about the fact that you’re never too old to create beauty in this world and our elderly deserve a chance to be recognized for their enduring and newfound talent. It’s also an amazing way for those suffering from dementia, etc. to keep the brain engaged by doing artwork and learning something new. My desire is to create an awareness and platform where their art can be shown and hopefully more programs like this can be created across the country”. 🧡Sierra wears the Atlas Jumpsuit in Desert Stripe #waxandcruz#handwoven#cruzmuse

Kudos to Khaadi for spearheading presentation of indigenous Handloom textiles in Pakistan with #Chapter2 and now you see even more fashion brands like #zaraShahjahan coming up with collections with special emphasis on hand weaves of our Indian subcontinent.
Indian Designers like #KrishnaMehta in 2015 used #mangalagiricotton and there are similiar #srilankancotton weaves you see in barefoot ceylon gallery in Srilanka too .Across the border India passed a legislation called Geographical Indication (GI) Act in 1999 which gives specific crafts a sign to be used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. We also need such measures to protect crafts like susi cloth among others to survive
Was nesting and found my giant stash of pleather so of course I stopped and tried my hand at incorporating some into a weaving and now I’m obsessed!!! Don’t you love when you find an old material and it’s new life just blossoms before your eyes?!
This picture of La Merced Cathedral in Guatemala was taken by my mom and is the cover of her book, What Color is Joy? - her ode to the country that has brought her so much happiness. Sharing that love of Guatemala with my mom and my own children is something for which I will always be grateful! ⠀
