Our current competition is on the theme 'Hidden'. Sometimes by not seeing the full story, our minds connect the dots and come up with something new. That's why this month we've chosen to ask you to show us those shots where all is not as it seems, and where the mystery of what isn't shown makes the shot all the more enjoyable and intriguing for it.
To enter, simply follow us on Instagram @opticnervecollective and tag your entries there with #OpticNerveHidden by 5 February 2019.
The winner will be featured on our site as our Photo of the Month, on our Instagram account, Facebook header, and hopefully some more places in future :) Further details and examples at

@magdamasano_folk è un’amica speciale.

The crazy thing about travel is that other people instantly connect the dots based on 1 second of a 24 hour day. Or maybe that’s the goal for some people; to convey an image of perfection while 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds may be complete chaos. Today was an exhausting day. We had to take 4 different trains and a bus to get to Hakuba, Japan. The trains were crowded, and it took us forever to figure out which tickets we needed to purchase. I’ve never had plantar fasciitis, but this is what I’d imagine it feels like. My feet hurt, I’m probably dehydrated; but I’m ready to see what the skiing is like over here. However, this was 1 second of my day where I was completely humbled and grateful to be alive and well.
Can you even believe it that it’s already end of January? 😱 Because we’re probably all wondering where the time is flying and how the hell are we supposed to get everything done when there isn’t enough time in the day, I wanted to discuss one phrase in particular, which people often use as motivation to achieve things they want. .
“Do what you love and you’ll never have to work a day in your life”.... which is the worst thing possible you can tell someone who is working their butt off to do exactly that.
The thing is, when you want to do what you love in life, you have to go through what is probably 90% of hard work, stress, anxiety, research and constant learning to actually get to the point where you can do solely what you love. And even then, there’s a lot of additional admin stuff you do even when you get to that stage. .
So when we look at our favourite photographers, musicians, writers, business people - those who do it all just by themselves, with their own strength, and we think we want to be like them, also enjoy life like they do right now.. we should know that “doing what one loves” is just the surface. There’s the whole iceberg of work and hardships to actually get there. .
Is it discouraging? No, that’s the beauty of it, something, that makes what you love truly special, as more often than not we have to fight for what we love. ♥️
