Sometimes it's strange how some creatures get their name. Green sea turtle – named for the green color of the fat under its shell. Nothing to do with their outside look. 🤷🏾♂️ Video by @sideytheshark

While I was in Borneo I had the incredible opportunity to visit Selingan Island, part of the Turtle Islands Heritage Protected Area (TIHPA), and see marine turtles in the wild for the first time in my life.
TIHPA is the first trans-boundary protected area for the conservation of marine turtles in the world, with both Malaysia and the Philippines sharing its management. It is a major area for marine turtle nesting, particularly for green turtles like this beautiful girl I had the pleasure of seeing, with the work being done here priceless to marine turtle conservation.
It's a day to celebrate these beautiful ancient creatures! We're lucky to encounter them on a regular basis during our dives, often busy munching away at sponges, coral and many other different things.
Today marks the first day of nesting season for sea turtles in South Florida! First species to show up are the leatherbacks and one already nested in Palm Beach!
