One of my priorities this year is to remember to practice self-care ✨ I recently made a list of things that make me happy and plan to refer to the list whenever I’m feeling stressed/anxious. (Thank you @sarazaytsoff for the idea!) I wrote quite an extensive list, but thought I would share some of them:
1. Taking a bath with a face mask on 🧖🏻♀️
2. Eating a slice of carrot cake at @wholefoods 🥕
3. Having wine with my girlfriends
4. Going to the gym when I’m not in a time crunch and blasting my music 🏋🏻♀️
5. Watching Friends while lying in bed with a face mask 📺 (I really enjoy face masks, can you tell?)
6. Having my morning coffee in a calm setting
7. Getting a foot massage
What are some of the things that make you happy? 😁

How much emphasis do you put on recovery?
Me, I take that sh!t hella seriously. Maybe it’s because I’ve had a severe injury before. Maybe because my job revolves around movement. Or maybe because 40 🙈.
Regardless, I do all the things to try to keep my body healthy. I honestly will try almost anything if it works. If someone told me they were gonna sprinkle pixie dust on me and that shit made my body function better, you best believe I would be like Sprinkle Me, mane.
No, but for reals.
I do the yoga, stretching, myofascial release, etc...as well as a combo of chiro [@thesourcechiro] acupuncture/cupping/bodywork [@be_well_chris]
float/sauna/et al [@rebootspa]. .
I dunno which is my favorite because I love them all. What do you do to take care of your body?

Whole30 Breakfast sausage with simple salsa
9 to 12 oz. @applegate sweet Italian sausage
2 large eggs per person or avocados and mixed greens of choice
Simple Tomato Salsa:
2 medium roma tomatoes, finely chopped
3 tbsp shallots, finely chopped
4 tbsp flat parsley or cilantro, finely chopped
Lime juice to taste
Coarse salt to taste
Pan fry or bake the sausage until they are completely cooked through with avocado oil. Whisk together as many eggs as you need and cook over medium heat in a skillet until scrambled.
Combine the tomatoes, shallots, and cilantro in a bowl. Squeeze the lime over top and sprinkle with the salt. Gently but thoroughly toss ingredients together. Chill for at least 30 minutes, or refrigerate for up to 3-4 days.
Pack-to-go: Plate the eggs and sausage in one container and the salsa separately or swap eggs for avocado and mixed greens. The breakfast taste great in room temperature or warm. #iheartumami

I have to admit... I did great this week! As mentioned in yesterday’s post, these past few months have been a bit inconsistent, and I fully blame the holidays. Not blaming them in a bad way, as we all need to take time to enjoy the change in routine.
This week, for the first time in awhile, I enjoyed every single training session, completed low impact cardio everyday, stuck to a decent diet, and felt really good and motivated 🙌🏻
I think we all go though a time where the motivation to get up and get your ass moving isn’t quite there. And if that’s the case, don’t give up. Do what you gotta do to get through it and jump back on the bandwagon when you’re ready. Taking it day by day is better than quitting!
Today, I will rest. I will go get my hair done. I will come home and get ready for a wonderful night out. Tonight we celebrate the Fire Department, and most importantly, recognize the line officers of 2019, which includes my amazing husband becoming Deputy Chief.
