I am beautiful by product of the struggle of humanity in the new world. A mixture of native taino, euro, and afro blood lines. My Gene's and the genes of many like mehold the stories from multiple parts of the world. Be proud of who you and understand where you came from in order to plot where you are going.

January 19, 2019 would be my Dad’s 94th birthday. He always liked to add “up” his age, contending that “since we are conceived 9 months before we are born, we are actually 9 months older than our birth date.” (I think he just liked being told how great he looked for his age!) So he was already telling people he was 94! Since he passed away last October, it has been a strange adjustment to live in a world without that larger-than-life, booming-voiced, handsome patriarch. In my mind, he is still at home watching the news, tending to all his critters and driving around town giving out $2 bills, telling jokes, asking trivia questions and bragging about his kids. He actually delivered me, so his hands were the first ever to touch me & I will always be proud to share his name. Love & miss you, Nelson Page Aspen! God Bless all the doting dads, past and present. 💙🙏🏻 #dad#father#grandfather#greatgrandfather
Dionicio and Derek. I'm thinking this is from my sophomore year? Thanks to my Uncle Danny for sharing. If I end up being half the man he was, I would count that as a win. #flashbackfriday#grandfather#grandpa
An amazing piece of history that my good friend @geradprairie and I were playing last night! When I turned 5 years old I was lucky enough to go with my family to Fiji: the birthplace of both my parents as well as all of my aunts and uncles. While in Fiji I truly connected to my Nana (maternal grandfather) and before I left to go back home he gave me a very prized possession of his: his Hohner accordion which he had for years and had spent many cherished evenings playing with his family. I can't tell you the exact age of this beautiful antique instrument however I do know my mother says that she remembers it from when she was very little (late 1940s). It was a pretty incredible experience sitting down after so many years and learning to play this. So much history and so many memories in my hands. .

It’s 1950 and this is the Sinclair family in front of my Great Grandmother’s home on Rockingham Avenue in Ottawa. 48 years earlier my Nana had come to Canada with her husband Jock to build a new life. This is the family of her eldest son, my Grampa, Peter Sinclair. His mother was from London and his father was from Glasgow and from comments that he made that I can remember, he had a stronger affection for his Scottish roots. As an adult, I’d love to ask him why he thought that...his mother had left London for Glasgow as a young teenager and had been employed as a nanny. I’ve heard that she’d left London to get away from some family issues: another line of questioning that I’d love to ask her about. Maybe it’d be too personal to talk about but I wonder about the lives and the dramas of the people that I come from. My Grandmother in the front row was of much older Canadian stock, her mother came from Protestant Irish participants in the War of 1812 and her father was of Palatine German people who left New York State as United Empire Loyalists in 1776. It’s interesting and grounding to learn about family history. I’ve tried to make a point of asking questions of older family members and now I’m trying to pass it on. One thing for sure: we’re all immigrants. #familyhistory#palatinegerman#warof1812#immigrants#inthelivingyears#grandfather#grandmother#greatgrandmother#aunts#uncle

What children need most are the essential elements that grandparents offer in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, life lessons. And, more importantly, cookies.

My papa was based here when he was in the army and always talked about how great the place was. Now I have ticked it off the list. #malta#valletta
