“In Luke 10, when the scholar pressed Jesus to define who exactly this neighbor is that we’re commanded to love, Jesus didn’t give an inch. He gave a story. And it defines neighbor not as a particular who, but instead as a what, as in what you should do. The parable of the good Samaritan isn’t about identifying your neighbor; it’s about being a neighbor. In essence, it’s about being the kind of friend you wish you had.”
Did this blow your mind? Never seen it like that.
Also, why is it that we were taught that a good Samaritan is someone who does good deeds and charitable acts?
It was always about who we need to be. The kind of neighbour or friend we need to be.
And it starts with loving the person next to you or in front of you.
It looks like paying bus fare for the person next to you on the bus because you can see them turning out their bag for some change.
It looks like helping the weary mama in the bus, in the bank, at church or next door with her little one.
It looks like buying a loaf of bread at the shop and telling the shopkeeper to give it to the next guy who begs for food.
It looks like paying for the groceries of the out of pocket mama in front of you or behind you (send someone Jesus! 😝) Community, whether as Christians or not, is all about depending on each other. Maybe that's what Jesus was trying to get at, so that like in the book of Acts, everyone's needs are catered for.
So let's stop "just praying" and like the Samaritan or Jesus before healing someone, let your compassion move beyond thought or emotion. Compassion or sympathy is empty, wasted breath if it doesn't inspire your wallet, your hands and your time.
This is how they shall acknowledge our faith in God, when we love one another.
Be the neighbour. Be the friend. Be the one with the beating heart peeking through the sleeve looking for someone to love on today 😊

“Who are you surrounding yourself with? Positive people or negative people? You are who you hang around with.
You know your people, you know who drains you or lifts you up. Be aware of your own energy when you are around people or friends, your energy will either increase or decrease.. tune into that.
There are some people who will never see you as being good enough. That is their short-comings not yours. Be merciful enough for to cut them out of your life and welcomes those who embrace you, support you and believe in you.
