Hi hi hi I’m finally on Christmas holidays!! And school was so cute aw all the teachers stood outside the 6th form house and sang carols at the start of the day and they set all the school bells to Christmas songs and we all wore Christmas jumpers
Now that we know that the tale of Rudolph is not lighthearted, but rather an explicit example of how under capitalism deviation from the norm is punished unless it’s exploitable, how do we apply that to our understanding of current trans visibility?
It seems like left and right people are coming out of the closet. I didn’t know we had that many closets! As information about trans experiences comes to a global level of awareness, more and more people are coming to understand just how much of their individual identity is built on abstract and ridiculous social constructs. We’re figuring out who we are, the floodgates are open and the steady stream of authenticity that’s existed in cultures across the globe through history is becoming an outpouring of realization. As a culture we’re learning that a part of us is trans, same way that a part of us is queer, a part of us is disabled, and we’re trying to reconcile this nationalized understanding with our capitalistic worldview and values. All of a sudden emphasis is being placed on profitability!
This has resulted in watered-down, spurious media representations such as the palatable queer-baiting of Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s intimacy in Fantastic Beasts, and the manufactured portrayal of a trans boy by Elle Fanning in 3 Generations. Those in power can finally see that there’s value in our stories, however they don’t yet have the respect it takes to tell them with integrity, credibility. And we can sniff a cis perspective from a mile away. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“Stonewall” was shit. “The Normal Heart” was just as whitewashed and cis, nearly everywhere we turn there are stories About our communities that do not in fact reflect our communities. #PoseonFX is a breath of fresh air, #StevenUniverse is a salve, and both #TheFosters and #Shameless have moments that make me smile. But only moments.
Marginalized communities are the new Rudolph, and oh how the reindeer love them. But honestly? Santa can fuck off. This Rudolph’s trying to slay tonight 💃🏻
I’ve gotten so many requests for this, so here you are!
Another one-parter, sorry! These were hard to find, but I hope you like them nevertheless🥰
