Woah! Talk about such a powerful statement! This applies with physical health as well as emotional health. We tend to continue with unhealthy toxic habits and expect different results. And end up in a spiraling down effect of why we don’t receive certain outcomes. We need to prioritize our health and well-being. Invest in YOU. In your body your mind, your spirit. You only have one life one body , why not make sure we give it all it needs to thrive. Ask yourself, am I willing to give up what is/made me sick ? Am I ready to invest in myself and put myself first ? The answer should be YES ! Let me guide you through this process .on taking the first steps toward cleansing your body and mind 💕💕🙏🏼 #immunotec#functionalmedicine#mentalhealth#loveyourself#investinyourhealth
I have always taught my children to speak their mind and often they do to the point they challenge my own belief system often and it gets really uncomfortable and at times incredibly challenging but for me it was vital because I did not want them to learn to suppress emotions and them become physical. I did that and it was not healthy.
I’m more honest now and I am finally learning to challenge people I should have years ago but I’m very aware that it’s a muscle that takes plenty of practise and we are always work in progress and life our guru.
Last night I was asked about education and I have very strong views about what I think education is and it’s not exam results although as someone who did not get any I am very aware of how society judges us without them. We were also talking money and how it gives us the freedom to live our lives in a way that truly feeds our soul...as I came home I was reminded of my 20 year old self whose world was severely lacking direction, I was chasing the wrong people and I was so far out of alignment with myself I was making choices that were not serving me and then something happened and I still don’t know what..maybe I surrendered to what is and I started connecting with people who could help me make better choices and I noticed and slowly I began seeing the signposts and following them again.
Sometimes the conversation we have to have is with ourselves and it’s uncomfortable and it makes us squirm but the thing with uncomfortable is that it allows growth and they say change only truly happens when we get bored of our own bullshit but change also only happens when we are willing to listen to our own heart and soul, be true to our own belief system and have boundaries that do not allow others to get away with treating us in any other way than the way we deserve.
Own your worth, be kind but take no shit from anyone especially yourself because you are worthy when you say you are and you know your inner talk is right when your outside world starts to mirror your desires not your fears ...and notice because when you do your grateful heart becomes a magnet to miracles.

MY HEALTHY-ish CHRISTMAS CAKE!!
My little helper and I have been baking Christmas spirit. 👩👧
It was surprisingly easy to whip up and despite containing no refined sugar it passed the family & friends taste test - although it was my in-laws so they may have just been polite or surprised I had more than nuts to offer them as a snack with their cuppa!! Anyway I'm looking forward to sharing a slice or two with friends over the weekend.
All you need:
600 g mixed dried fruit
200 g ground almonds
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
zest and juice from 1 orange
3 tablespoons olive oil
3 medium eggs (beaten)
50 g walnuts (optional tipple of your choice - I used sherry)
All you do:
1. Preheat the oven to 150C
2. Combine the fruit, cinnamon, vanilla extract, nutmeg, orange juice and zest, olive oil and walnuts.
3. Mix in the eggs followed by the ground almonds.
4. Pour the mixture into a 20cm backing tin
5. Place in the oven for 1.5 hours but check on it to ensure it's not browning too quickly on top. If it is just cover the top with some foil.
6. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
If you're adding a tipple - prick the cake with a cocktail stick as soon as it comes out of the oven and spoon over your liquor of choice.
Responsible Nutritionist Note: I should probably add that whilst it's healthy compared to a regular Christmas cake it's still very high in sugar from all the dried fruit, so go easy on it :-)
For frosting there are several options. If you’re continuing down the sugar free route try a whipped coconut cream and maple syrup frosting. Add cinnamon and orange rind for extra flavour.

👉 Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguariensis) tea is an excellent coffee alternative that demonstrates rather impressive effects on body composition, mood and other health related outcomes. Let’s take a look at the science:
💥FAT LOSS PATHWAY #1:
Yerba Mate acts on the expression of genes related to thermogenesis. It is able to enhance uncoupled respiration via uncoupling protein (UCP) 2 and UCP 3 expression. It was also show to modulate thermogenesis by increasing the mRNA levels of Pgc1α and UCP 1 in brown adipose tissue, therefore priming the body for fat loss (Gambero & Ribeiro, 2015).
💥FAT LOSS PATHWAY #2:
Several studies have been conducted in cellular models and in obese animals to evaluate the effects of yerba maté on several genes related to adipogenesis. Adipogenesis is the developmental process by which a multipotent mesenchymal stem cell differentiates into a mature fat cell. Yerba mate was found to modulate the production of mature fat cells (Gambero & Ribeiro, 2015).
💥FAT LOSS PATHWAY #3:
Another impressive study (Alkhatib, 2014) in 14 healthy subjects noted that ingestion of Yerba Mate prior to exercise augments fat oxidation and energy expenditure at various submaximal intensities. This may be attributed to the caffeine content present in Yerba Mate, however, there are probably other alkaloids and chemicals present that have anti-obesity/fat metabolising properties.
📚OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS:
-Choleretic (Helps increase bile production)
(Kang et al., 2012).
I can present many more pathways for fat loss, although it would be too lengthy to include in this post. This tea is another tool to aid in fat loss, keep you lean and increase energy levels. I will be expanding on fat loss/body composition in future posts to come! Turn on post notifications!
Maintaining your health and well being is time consuming and can be expensive depending on your situation. But it is surely less expensive and far more pleasant than being ill.
This is a great quote by lee Swanson
Posture is an output of the Brain and reflexive in Nature. ⠀
Driven by reflexes, the sensory systems of the brain control posture and movement. ⠀
Those main three sensory systems are:⠀
✅ The eyes and visual system⠀
✅ The inner ear and Vestibular System⠀
✅ The proprioceptive System in the muscle, fascia, skin and joints. ⠀
Guess which one of those systems receives the largest input? Yes you guessed it - 👀⠀
The Limbic emotional centre in the brain then plays a role in our mostly unconscious reactions to the sensory data coming in. ⠀
The Cerebellum modulates all that sensory input. ⠀
❇️ Does the brain perceive threat?⠀
❇️ Is this threat linked to a survival reflex?⠀
❇️ How long ago did this posture become the normal adaptive set position of the nervous system? ⠀
❇️ What are the hidden Limbic drivers that are keeping a posture locked in a certain position? ⠀
These are all factors that need to be addressed when looking at posture and structure. ⠀
It is not about finding the absolute ideal posture but rather, bringing conscious awareness to how we hold ourselves.⠀
With a skilled practitioner of Functional or Applied Movement Neurology you can address imbalances in the Visual, Vestibular and Proprioceptive system. Clear out any excessive Limbic charges and work towards a healthier reflexive postural System.
Prebiotics are just as important to gut health as probiotics - they help provide fuel for the beneficial gut bacteria. Chia seeds, flax seeds, onions, artichokes.....are all great prebiotic foods especially when the chia seeds are eaten as a yummy chocolate banana pudding!🙃

One of my favorite Cannabis lectures today was by Dr Michael Lewis on traumatic brain injury and Cannabis.
🧠 Any rapid movement of the brain inside the skull can cause brain injury and concussion-like symptoms. For predisposed individuals even a ride on a roller coaster or whiplash could cause brain inflammation.
🧠Symptoms can range from headache, balance problems, light sensitivity, nausea, fatigue, insomnia to difficulty concentrating, memory loss, anxiety, depression and brain fog 🧠While symptoms resolve in a few months in most some suffer for years after the event 🧠High dose Omegas and Cannabis (together) are showing great impact for nerve recovery and neurotransmitter balance (dopamine, serotonin) #traumaticbraininjury#concussion#fishoil#integrativemedicine#yoga#healthcoach#cannabis#functionalmedicine#neurology#neurosurgery#depression#brainfog#memoryloss
The fruit fly!
According to a new study published in the Journal Nature, researchers found that a bacteria Lactobacillus Brevis, living in the gut of Fruit fly is directly involved in regulating movement and locomotion in the Fruit fly. It does this by controlling sugar metabolism. •
This finding is really exciting as it is possible that human gut bacteria might be really important in controlling or affecting human movements. •
If this is true than manipulating gut bacteria might become one therapeutic tool in treating various movement disorders.

It’s Brussel sprout season, y’all!! This is probably one of the most under appreciated veggies. They may not be winning any popularity contest, but #didyouknow they contain compounds that activate #cancer fighting enzymes in your body. Additionally, consuming one cup of brussels sprouts three times per week, can decrease inflammation and promote heart health. Say yes to wellness and put sprouts back on your dinner table. #VeggiesAreBae#Repost Video @wearesovegan
Ladies! 🙋🏻♀️ We all know that gut health is super important. Scientists are now referring to it as “the second brain” 🧠because of its impact on metabolism, mood, immune system, and many other functions in the body. But it’s especially important for us ladies because it’s connected to our HORMONES!
What happens when we have poor gut health? Estrogen is able to escape proper excretion from the body, and is recycled back into our bloodstream. This creates excess estrogen in our bodies, which wrecks havoc on our system - causing fatigue, anxiety, abnormal menstruation, and an increased risk of developing breast cancer.
The good news? Gut health can be restored and estrogen levels decreased through eating whole, plant-based foods and supplementing with probiotics.
Even better, foods like
have been shown to help increase Glucuronidation (one of the ways that our body gets rid of excess estrogen). If you suspect your hormones are out of whack, start with repairing your gut first ☝🏼
I wanna know.... what were you eating on a daily basis in college? Be honest.

You check your bank balance on a regular basis. When was the last time you checked your Health balance? Are you carrying around tons of health #debt with you every single day? Insufficient health is not an joke. It’s called: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, and certain cancers. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
The most powerful decision you make every day is what food you choose to put inside your body. Two choices: Illness or Wellness?! CHOOSE WELL.
#WisdomWesdnesday!! This post is not meant to be a downer, but an reality heart check. Over 2,200 people will die from cardiovascular disease today. These are not just numbers, but real people. 80% of cardiovascular diseases are preventable, the heartbreaking part is people still think it won’t happen to them or their families.

#MindfulMonday! This is your body when you don’t eat veggies: —You could become deficient in vitamins and minerals —You could develop digestive problems —Your risk of cancer increases —You may gain weight —You’re more likely to develop diabetes —Your blood pressure may rise —You have a greater risk for heart disease —And you double the incidence of developing anxiety and depression
Raise your hand if you want one or more of these side effects of NOT eating veggies...If you are ready to work 1-On-1 with me & start adding veggie stacks to your health bank account 📧[email protected]
#FYI! Veggies will help #detoxify your body, but you still need to do your part in other ways. Those funny looking tongue cleaners are much more important than you might think. #Didyouknow? Most of our bodies #detoxification happens during sleep, and the white coating on the tongue that most people wake up to is actually a fresh layer of toxins that the body released during the night. If you don’t clean it out you will swallow it back! #Wellness

Our mindset and our habits are very much interconnected. Think about it – what we tell ourselves directs our actions, and our actions become our habits.
Change is a process. Keep things simple and be reasonable with your expectations. Also, give yourself permission to not be perfect with the process. But doing nothing yields NO RESULTS!
What is one mindset shift you can make that you know will have a positive impact on your health? #VegUP#Veggies#I💚Veggies
For years “Adrenal Fatigue” was a taboo topic to discuss…
Conventional medicine denied its existence and nobody wanted to hear that you were tired, achy and feeling down…
But today, with state-of-the-art lab testing and decades of science backed research, we know Adrenal Fatigue (HPA Axis Dysfunction, ME, CFIDS) does exist and it comes in any different forms…
That’s why on today’s #CabralConcept 1040 I want to share with you what the 7 most common warning signs are for oncoming Adrenal Fatigue – Enjoy the show!

What do you do on a daily basis to optimize your health?
This past week, I shared some tips on how I support my emunctories and organs of detoxification and elimination.
We are exposed to 85,000+ synthetic chemicals in our environment. In order to keep them at bay, it’s important that we detoxify as consistently as possible.
Did you know there are drug metabolites and endocrine disrupters (fluoride) in our tap water, neurotoxic chemicals (Round-up and food dyes) in the food we eat, and there are carcinogenic compounds (formaldehyde derivatives & flame retardants) in our common household products we use on a daily basis?
In a less than perfect world, there are simple steps that YOU can implement on a daily basis to support your liver.
One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to get into a routine.
We are creatures of habit, and if you start implementing one new tip each week, you can slowly incorporate these methods into your everyday lifestyle.
Eat plants, get outside, stay hydrated, chose organic, take a breath, sweat more, and take advantage of the natural gifts that nature has to offer in order to help keep your body healthy and vibrant!
There are so many root cause rebels joining our tribe and a lot of you have been asking about how I help people and what a Root Cause Doctor does. 👩🌾
I love helping people find solutions to optimize their health that they didn't know existed.
The thing that keeps me going every day is the joy on a patient's face the moment they see from our assessment and test results that...
They weren't imagining things. ☺️
It's not because they were "just getting old." ☺️
And instead of being told "everything looks fine" when they don't feel fine - I look deeper to find the overlooked causes so we can take action and get them feeling better. ☺️
A thorough assessment, the right tests, and a personalized plan are the best ways to heal by:
✨ Identifying and removing obstacles to healing.
✨ Eliminating toxic burdens.
✨ Nourishing and correcting nutrient deficiencies.
✨ Repairing low functioning organ systems.
If this sounds like the healing opportunity you've been searching for, I'm currently accepting new patients at my Portland, Oregon office throughout the state of Oregon and nearby Washington.
✨Learn more by sending me a message and I'll get you hooked up with an application and a time for us to chat to see if I can help. .

What some people believe to be a hormone production issue, I believe to be either a communication error, or a metabolism error.⠀
As you age, the production of sex hormones from your ovaries or testes decreases, despite an increasing message from the brain (LH & FSH) to make more hormones. In men this is called andropause, and women this is called menopause. However, this concept cannot be extrapolated over to the adrenal glands, although it is commonly done. Only in rare instances do you see a drastic rise in ACTH, the message from the brain telling the adrenal glands to make more cortisol.⠀
Don't get me wrong, I treat the HPA axis, which includes the adrenal glands, in many of my patients who are suffering from excessive fatigue. The difference, is that the majority of the time I am not trying to get the adrenal glands to 'come back online' and produce more cortisol, rather I am trying to get them to hear the message from the brain better so that they produce more cortisol on their own and in a more efficient pattern. Put differently, I'm not treating an adrenal gland that is fatigued, I am treating one that is not communicating well.⠀
But, the big caveat is that if testing reveals we don't actually have a production issue, but rather a clearance issue, then that requires a different approach. Typically, if sufficient amount of cortisol is being made but free cortisol levels are low, then looking for the cause of this is going to move the needle the most. The biggest culprit of this is hyperthyroidism.⠀
In some regards, the treatment for the communication issue is very similar regardless of which way you look at it, however there is huge power in understanding why you are doing a treatment and what effect you are trying to create. This taps into the emotional and psychological aspect of healing which is highly underrated in today's medical system.⠀
Treat the communication or clearance issue, not the vague 'fatigue'.⠀
