How lucky are we to live minutes from the beach, forest and wetlands. Yet for years we have not made the most of it. We moved to a new city nearly 7 years ago because we were in a rut and wanted a change. But I realise now we have just swapped one rut for another. Just without our family or friends here. Planning ahead on this journey is SO important because it helps you to avoid a financial crisis down the line. For example, when I go back to work we'll be making approximately $7,700 a month. However, I did a little estimate as to what our monthly budget will be and it's going to be around $8,050 (thank you $3,200 of daycare😭) so we'll be approximately $600 short a month give or take on the numbers. That's why we've created a savings fund for when I go back to work. With that savings fund we'll have enough to cover the difference every month until Peanut #1 is out of full time daycare. By planning ahead we're avoiding these huge financial burdens so that we can enjoy life without as much stress!

HUYU only recently started using this app and encountered so many problems in the first week. Apperantly it was a glitch. That's now sorted however, it doesn't take away the fact you can only UPLOAD 10 RECEIPTS A WEEK!!! So overall the potential is only to gain 50 points per week without the help of surveys or if you are really lucky your three referrals. So 10 weeks you will be able to cash out. This definately goes in the receipt hog pile. I'm not giving up as it is free money. But it is such a simple app to use if they broadened their horizons it could be one of the main players. Cost $3.30 & made 16 Bars 4 Cups Rice Puffs 80c Marshmallows $2 40-50g of Butter 40c These were so simple to make just combine marshmallows & butter into a microwave safe bowl & cook for 30 second intervals until all melted. Then stir in your rice bubbles and spread & flatten into a square pan, lined with baking paper then top with sprinkles or choc chips whichever you prefer. I use @listeaseapp for my grocery list. I have three set up: 1) Main Shop 2) Top Up 3) General ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ For things that don’t have set weights like produce and meat, I always overestimate how much they’ll cost. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I also have a weird habit of putting some items in for their actual price and some things I round up, I don’t know why 🤔😂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I like to overestimate because is something is out of stock or gone up in price, I’ve allowed for it and I don’t get a surprise! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As you can see in the top right, it says the list will cost $62. Absolutely love being able to drop $800 extra a month onto this loan!! In less than one year I will be completely debt free (again) Personal circumstances happened and a loan was the only option. So...my husband and I have wanted something for a while now. We can afford to pay cash for it. We’ve done our research. It’s a luxury purchase. It’s completely unnecessary. A definite want. Yep - a Range Rover 🤦🏻‍♀️ Please hear me out!! We spoke about buying one before we had the baby as our Mazda is surely not as safe as a newer car... But, we had a moment of clarity, acknowledging that our car is 100% completely suitable for our growing family, and it’s safety is too! So here’s how we bought our current car and how we would buy any future ones. Firstly, we wouldn’t buy new - you lose about 30% of the value as soon as you drive it home. Secondly, it pays to give yourself time to search for the right car. If you’re keeping an eye on things, cars do pop up that are a couple of years old with only a few dozen thousand kms on them. Our car was 2yrs old when we bought it and had 27,000kms. We paid about 65% of the value of a new one, and we haven’t had a single complaint in the 5 years we’ve had it! We did think ahead to family, and bought a car that could fit surf boards, golf clubs and eventually two babies (just not all at once!!). The Rangey might happen one day...but perhaps when we’re mortgage free/earning multiples of what we do now, as it’s a little hard to justify that kind of money on a depreciating asset vs a house! 😂 What (unnecessary) item have you lusted over but decided not to buy? Ps, I have a girlfriend who is 25 and drives a financed jaguar - hence the meme 😂

Ok, so continuing on with the #frugal topic (ziplocks) here’s another one that I’ve been doing. During Christmas target had these rosemary almonds for sale. The rosemary and sea salt were up to the green part of the sticker. The flavor was absolutely delicious so instead of throwing it out once the almonds were done, I’ve been using it to season EVERYTHING. lol. It was on my salmon last night. {Finance update} My husband got a job 🙌🏻 yay! It’s early mornings physical labour work so his feeling it, his lost 5kgs in his first 2 weeks. We got his first pay, it was decent, it’s fortnightly which is ok as it’s the opposite fortnight to my pay, so we have a pay coming in every week. We have put a hold on paying our personal loan and mortgage (as we were months ahead in payments). We plan to build up our emergency fund back up to $5k (we’re halfway) then we will be back to smashing our goals! Today is my dad’s birthday: He came here from vietnam with nothing but the clothes on his back at the age of 20. Yet he still had the responsibility of taking care of his younger sister. He worked hard as a janitor for 40 hours and he would sit after work to learn how to run the machines at the shop. We were so poor that he built our bunkbeds out of plywood. Yet he worked hard, saved all his money, and finally was able to buy a brand new house which he finished paying for after 2 years of living there. He put 5 kids through college and is pretty much debt free. He is the reason why I knew how to manage my money. And he’s the reason why I want to be even better at managing my money for my future kids. If I become half the person my dad was, it would make me so happy.
