Time for the first fix! Whilst we hadn’t originally planned a full re-wire we’ve decided to go for it as the majority of the house is a shell. It’d be far more disruptive to re-wire in 10 years time (if we’re still here) so thought we might as well get it out the way with. We’re fortunate enough to have a brilliant electrician that lives down the road. He’s been giving us advice throughout our purchase of the house, is knowledgeable, trustworthy and reliable. There are still some great trades-peeps out there.
Our window fitters though... not so great 😠 but that’s a story for another post.
A whole year in our house.
We moved in a year ago today, time flies!!
Looking back I can’t believe how many changes we have made in just a year.
Love how it’s turned out, more planned for next year continuing to make our house a home 🏡
This weekend the house renovations are on full tilt. Follow my stories for the updates but I literally cannot wait to start getting some colour on the walls! I’ve had the hallway paint since May, but I was jumping the gun a bit! Im going deep and dramatic on the walls as I want my hallway to be quite Pow! Like ‘hello, this is me, welcome to my awesome house!’ . And the dark colours will really make my patterned floor tiles pop! It’s really important to think about how you want each room to feel, before you go headlong into signing up to a colour scheme. So I want my hallway to be bold, striking, fabulous but also welcoming. It also has to connect to all the other rooms that come off it. So I’m going for my favourite deep blue on the walls, that’ll link towards our green kitchen, then look stunning against the soft pink that will be on the walls in the living room. And I use my favourite blue through the house so that will work as a linking colour. It’s a colour palette I’ve been in love with for a while. This little corner I designed for the Ideal Home Show back in April and looking at it again I can see a really pleasing colour palette. You see, you really don’t need your walls to be grey! And on that note, if you’ve not caught our podcast yet, do have a catch up this weekend, the link is in my profile @sophierobinsoninteriors and @mad_about_the_house talk a lot about colour trends so there’s plenty of inspiration. Real life Reno’s ! We’ve had a massive demo / painting day today ( now both of us are comatose on the sofa 😴😴) Hubby climbed the ladder and painted the front gable all twenty foot of it ( I kept watch passing paint brushes to him with 000 ☎️ at the ready 😉) .
Then he started demo of the old window hoods - finding a piece of galvanized metal with his dad’s old work label printed on it from the Lysaght factory- we thought we’d frame the label for a keepsake in the house , dated 1935 ! .
➡️Finished up those garbage picked MCM chairs with some new hardware, reupholstery, and a touch of sanding+mineral oil. Salvaged one pair from the three I picked up. Pretty happy with how they turned out. ⚒

Good news bad news. GOOD news: this color is so cool! BAD news: my son thinks it’s too dark, and I hadn’t considered the huge mirrored closet directly accros that’s reflecting the dark (making it seem like 2 dark accent walls...) See my stories to help me decide!
👉🏻Also, did you see my paint disaster in my stories🙈? To see my stories tap my little profile photo next to my name, then tap the photo again.
@investorgirlbritt page has inspired me to take my DIY projects to another level! I have started to learn to tile & grout & use a variety of tools to eventually get on her level. I think one of my next projects will be buying a live-in flip and gradually doing upgrades myself for fun & practice. It won’t be my typical flip house that I normally do but just one that needs a few cosmetic upgrades - We typically hire the work & just provide the scope and designs. Im so excited!! Thanks for the inspiration 🤗

▪️I used 1/8” spacers to get that even gap, I used left over ones for my tile job but I’ve seen people use nickels (1/16”) too🤓
▫️I staggered and 45ed the joins, except for the ones that are not visible after the hood fan is installed.
▪️I glued each piece (I had wood glue on hand so that is what I used... ?) and then nailed every piece to the studs I marked out ahead of time.
▫️I filled the nail holes, sanded and then primed the shiplap.
▪️Probably best to use a semi gloss paint so if anything splatters it’s easier to wipe off. The paint colour I used is Alabaster by @sherwinwilliams ▫️I sealed the bottom row with silicone where it meets the counter... any water that seeps into the MDF will ruin it so make sure it’s sealed well and I wouldn’t use it behind a sink. #shiplap#kitchendesign#womeninconstruction#backsplash
