Man, I have no words to describe my past week! It has been unbelievable!! After coming back from the @vulfpeck shows in Dublin, I had the opportunity to go to Madrid to play a gig with @soyjavibosque and @stewesht + to go see @coryjwong's gig and his current band for his European tour! Kicking off in Madrid... they totally funked the @salaclamores!! It was so great meeting the band after the set!! Great guys! Got to chat about bass, Modulus, bass amps and more BASS with @ryanbutlerbass, you are the man; had to thank @kevingastonguay for his funky performance on the Rhodes, great guy; @petarjdrumss... killer groove machine and an awesome dude. He explained to us how to improvise in 25/8 (Serbian folk music time signature), thank you Petar!! Hahaha! It was so nice to meet @katismusic and to see her perform live. Lovely woman and singer!! And of course, the main man, @coryjwong!! It was so great to see you again! Thank you for doing what you do, man!! Have a great tour and all the best!
And @stewesht, it was so great to share this amazing weekend with you, bro!!

1 Minute Monday - Mark Lettieri / Cory Wong Funk Pattern
This week we're getting funky.
Here is a funky 16th pattern reminiscent of something that you might hear from Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy, Fearless Flyers) or Cory Wong (Vulfpeck, Fearless Flyers)
The whole pattern is a groove based on C7. The vibe here was to grab partial chord voicings or a tritone here or there to create movement and above all some groove.
There's a lot of 16th note rest happening so a tip would be to try and 'hear' the rests, try and hear the 16ths that you aren't playing as well as the ones you are to help stay in time and really feel the groove as you're playing it.
I had far too much fun with this one.
Nate Smith (1/3)
A few shots from the incredible @natesmithdrums clinic in Southampton on Sunday, in partnership with the fine people at Graham Russell Drums. @grdrums
Such an amazing player, and it was fascinating to hear to his stories and insights! I need to get back in the drum room...
