We use travel a lot to escape - escape from our daily routine, escape from the work grind, escape from sameness, escape at times even from known people. But travel is not just to escape, it is also to engage.
We had a series of memorable engagements with cab drivers in #sanfrancisco. Starting with the one who transferred us from the airport and was happily reporting that we have brought weather with us, clear sunny weekend ahead of us. He had strong opinions on the tallest building in downtown - Salesforce Tower - and admitted he hadn’t got used to the ‘missile’ (his nickname for the tower) as yet disrupting the SFO skyline. His heart was still with the graceful Transamerica Pyramid.
We ended up taking Uber several times to different parts of the city and marvelled at the engaging conversations we had with the drivers. One broke out into an astonished smile when my husband not only recognised his home country - Eritrea 🇪🇷- but also spoke of the recent political unrest there. Another one from Brazil told us a bit about baseball games when we crossed the AT & T park and why he prefers to watch only soccer.
When we were crossing Mission district, the cab driver was a treasure trove of information on the Victorian houses, regulations that don’t allow changing their facade, the lively streets and restaurants where a lot of people get dropped to.
All of them were keen to know where we were from. Most of them guessed India but wanted to know Delhi or Bangalore or Bombay! Some spoke about the Indian CEOs and founders in the Bay Area. Such delightful and unexpected engagements!
Tell me when and where have you had the most fun chat with a cab driver. #streetartphoto when we were strolling around Mission district and not in a cab :-)

For some reason I assumed Jackie Chan’s hands would be much smaller, LOL. Still an incredible honor to place my hands where his have been. Jackie is amazing!

We were in Miami for a friend's wedding at the beautiful #vizcayamuseum.
Around back is this ornately carved stone barge. It's not really a boat, but a structure to help break any rough water to protect the property. It's definitely doing it's job as the water was so calm it almost appeared like a sleek black mirror.
Bright and early, after the cruisers had disembarked from the ship, it was time to inspect the Disney Dream! I had sailed on other cruise ships but had yet to be on board a Disney vessel. I know people LOVE their Disney cruises, so I was excited to see how the Dream compared to other cruise lines. 🛳⛴🚢
Kozjak Waterfall is a truly amazing and refreshing place for summer days. 😍 What's your favourite spot when it gets really hot outside?☀️

I normally stress out about writing a caption for our pictures, because I want to make sure that I write something uplifting or worth while (not saying that I am ever successful in doing so)... but when I saw this photo, my first thought was “wow this needs no caption!” This is what life is all about man... beautiful smiles in beautiful places! Thank you for sharing @wanderlostwithkids#walkerfamilygoods#outmakingmemories#familytravel
Up on the blog - all about our favourite things to do in Naha Okinawa! Our friends Hannah, Eden and Clio of @funflyingfour 🙌 picked us up from the airport and generously showed us their fave things to do - like ice cream making at Blue Seal Ice Park, roller sliding at the park, the American Village and the best Mexican restaurant in town🌸💕🌸
Plus we discovered a few things too while roaming around. It’s all in our story - link is in our bio above...hope you like 🤗

Oh Hi .. sorry for my radio silence! Coming back to real life in London has been like a smack in the face. Literally the minute we stepped off the plane, our hotel cancelled. We couldn’t move straight home as our tenants exit date didn’t match up exactly. When we finally did get in to our own house, it wasn’t exactly how we would have wanted. We’ve spent the last three days cleaning and sorting .. Oh and I’ve done my first week back at work in amongst all of the chaos. I sobbed like a little child all the way to work on my first day, not wanting to leave Quinn!.. it’s been such a tough week but it’s finally coming together. We have a big empty house with nothing in it. Just unpacked our one suitcase. We’ve realised how little we need.. Before we left we had accumulated a house full of stuff that’s been in storage. I have no idea what’s in it so it can’t be that important. #experiencesnotthings is what it’s all about in this family. This was our very last stop in the Ring of Kerry, Southern Ireland .... Is it ridiculous that I can not stop thinking about our next adventure? I’ve literally just unpacked 🙈

I loved San Pedro so much I didn’t want to leave so when my first attempts failed I wasn’t really too phased. @jonofirst bought a motorbike in Panajachel with a plan to ride a similar route to our shuttles. He rode off into the sunset towards Monterrico and Ives and I were going to follow.
Later I discovered the first shuttle wasn’t going and the day after, the route had been closed due to road damage from the eruption of Fuego. So I asked the lady at the ticket office for a map.
I picked a random town on the same coast line called El Paredon. It sounded good to me so I bought our tickets and was told the shuttle would arrive the next morning. A shuttle didn’t arrive though, a man did and he told me to head to the lake. I carried our bags to the dock where a lady passed me a hand drawn map. I was getting a shuttle, but I had to get a boat to it first. Ives and I took the boat across the lake to Santiago and followed the map up a really steep hill, past beautiful markets and into a small parking garage where a man was waiting for us with a tiny red bus. We were the only passengers and his non existent English and my childlike Spanish made for some great conversation where I think we were in fact having our own conversations just at the same time. Lucky I am so good at charades.
After sitting in road works and buying fresh fruit from children through the bus windows, we arrived in an empty car park beside a river. Ivy asked me, “Are we here Mummy?” and I was wondering if picking a random town on a map was really a smart idea, when we started reversing towards the river. Confused, I turned around to see a man pulling up to us in what looked like a large raft made of logs with a boat motor and an umbrella to shade him. We reversed onto the raft and began to float towards El Paredon.
There were less than a handful of hostels on the map, so I was excited to see where we were going. Ivy was just excited the bus was on a boat...
Almost certain I shared this exact photo last summer (after a similar in-person jaw-to-the-floor ‘moment’ 🍐🍑🍓🥝🙌🏻), but I think we can all agree: there’s nothing quite like a LUSH market #SomeplaceWilder
