As a kid, I used to love collecting sea shells when we go to the beach but as I grew older I actually found out that it is bad for the ecosystem and even illegal in the Philippines to take some of these species from its natural habitat!
I found this cowry hiding under some soft corals and it was the size of my fist! A cowry is actually a sea snail with its shell serving as its protection. Even if shells are eaten by their natural predators they still should be left in the oceans as they serve as homes and protection for other smaller critters.
These shells are not meant to be used as decorations for our home or worn as jewelry. If you’re looking for souvenirs take pictures instead ☺️
