WAITING / For a client who is about to arrive, to enter your home which is so much more than that. It’s a home, an office, your entire world. A universe that overlooks a city and its promise. And when she comes in, she finds everything that she already knew, thanks to your book, to your story. You two have never met before, and yet it’s like if you had met her so many other times.
This is the power of a book. The power of a story.
What’s your story?

Visiting Windsor with the family 🙂 I took them to Cinnamon Cafe, one that is usually visited by cyclists on weekends and saw the castle and the park etc... it's been a long time I felt like a tourist in England, although I've only been living here for a bit more than 4 years, I already consider and talk about it as home. I've never felt a place to be so mine before, not even Budapest when I finally moved out from my mom's to go to university. As controversial as it feels, a foreign country means more home to me than my "home" country and I knew the conversion was final when riding on the right side of the road confused the hell out of me. I guess now I'll officially have to embrace the fact that it's no longer a phase in my life but I'm an expat for good and there's nothing wrong with that 🙂
Trying to decide what to wear to the Zurich Opera House in December. I don’t usually get so dressed up for the Opera (though I would never attend in anything less than a cocktail dress), but as I’m going in December and will be cold and Christmasy I’m feeling this beautiful little old @mrselfportrait gown.
I feel so lucky to call Dresden my home. It took a lot of time and a little bit of arguing but it has been so wonderful. Germany is such a wonderful country for so many reasons. Right now, I’m just thankful for the views and this beautiful autumn weather.
“Home is not a place...it’s a feeling.” I’ve lived in so many different places and without family around that I’ve learned to cultivate that homely feeling within. Home is where my partner and I are. Already, San Francisco is starting to feel familiar and I know we’ll create that same feeling wherever we move in the future.
Of course, some of the little comforts help along the way, as well as a shared idea of what makes a ‘home’. I understand it’s different for everyone but by prioritising that aspect when you move to a new place, I find the rest naturally follows because you’ve laid the foundation for it to... The last couple of days we have been beaten by the wind, it's been pretty hectic! This morning the palm trees looked awesome at the Samora Machel roundbout, they looked like they were almost bending in half!! .
You may also notice the lady bending down in the photo, she is in fact collect sand from the side of the road. Taking sand off the beach is against the law here, so when it's been super windy you see people collecting the sand that has blown in from the beach. This sand can then be sold, or used at their own homes for building or sand bags against the pending rains. .
I have a good friend here in China who has a really similar philosophy as I do when it comes to the foods we want to feed our kiddos. We went to her son’s birthday party today and the main dessert was a healthy banana bread. Her son loved it and was also just happy with grapes too. I hope that feeding Harper whole foods from the start will cause her to continue to crave those foods as she gets older. Even looking at this meal of SWEET POTATO + BANANA + BLACK TAHINI that I had for lunch yesterday...how fun would this combination be for a kid’s Halloween meal?! I could even drag a toothpick through the black tahini to make it look like spider webs🎃🕷🕸
