Frozen in Time: Casts of Pompeii Reveal Last Moments of Volcano Victims
The plaster casts of 86 agonized victims of the Mount Vesuvius eruption in 79 AD will go on exhibit May 26, 2015, in National Archaeological Museum of Naples, Italy.
People of Pompeii, a Roman city, were in their death throes when a cloud of gas from the volcano enveloped them, killing them. The gas was 300 degrees centigrade (572 degrees F). Clearly, from the expressions of their faces and their bodily contortions they were caught by surprise when the ash cloud finally consumed them.
Meet Stan Squirewell.
It is with great pleasure that we include Squirewell’s work in our Race, Myth, Art and Justice exhibition. In this interview with Quiet Lunch Magazine, Squirewell discusses his creative process.
Stan Squirewell (b. 1978, United States) is a painter, photographer, installation, and performance artist who draws inspiration from African and Native American history, science fiction, avant-garde jazz, and indigenous storytelling. The subject matter of his multilayered world tackles themes such as: aboriginal customs, race and memory through mythology, sacred geometry, and science. Squirewell’s artistic training began at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, DC and continued at the Hoffberger School of Painting where he received a MFA. He is the first winner of the Bombay Sapphire Artisan Series in partnership with Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation. He has performed with Nick Cave (Soundsuits) at the National Portrait Gallery, Washington, DC and Jefferson Pinder at G Fine Art, Washington, DC. His works are in the collections of Reginald F. Here is the link to the interview with Dave Elliott seen tonight on WLOX TV in Biloxi. I want to thank them and also USM and the Library administration that showed such professionalism and support to us as they have to many other coastal artists over the years. This was probably the largest solo event ever held on the coast and very likely the largest Watercolor collection.
@adrianjeanofficial and Christian, our co-curator, were on @fox5ny a few days ago to show you a glimpse of the exhibition 🙈

Massive thank you to @denverartmuseum for having me attend the Dior preview today! This exhibit is absolutely breathtaking, what a pleasure it was to see such stunning work here in Denver! It was so hard to pick a favourite piece because they are ALL so incredible. You can get a sneak peek in my stories, though I didn't want to ruin too much! There is SO much more to see, so I HIGHLY recommend stopping by to see it all with your own eyes 😍
