I overheard a conversation at the gym (fine, I was eavesdropping, same/same) this morning between a trainer and her client that went like this:
"We had some friends over for lunch on Sunday and I said to them, 'well if I have to eat chicken breast and salad so do you', so that's what I made them. But then my husband made this baked cheesecake - now I love cheesecake, I love all cake, but I didn’t have one single bite".
I believe it was meant to be an inspiring tale of self control and restraint, but all I heard was misery and deprivation and fuck that shit.
Can we just be clear here that no one HAS to eat chicken breast and salad. That is not an obligation for anyone. If you really like a bit of chicken and greenery and it makes you feel good and happy eating it then great, fucking do that. But if you're weeping into your bowl of chook tit and rabbit food and wishing it was a big fat slab of baked cheesecake that you’re 'not allowed' then I reckon you should probably reevaluate some of your life choices. .
Diet mentality can eat a bag of dicks. In my experience, for most of us human type people, deprivation never goes well, eventually you'll find yourself face first in a family sized cheesecake that you could have just had one slice of and been happy with. Life is too short for that shit and it certainly doesn't have to be that miserable or complicated. Eat your damn greens, enjoy some really good quality treats in moderation and go on with your business.
After listening to that miserable little chat I came home and ate a piece of this fucking amazing Lime Cheese(less) cake for lunch to remind myself I'm alive and pretty bloody happy about it. It was ace. The end. .

After spending a few days in Provence, where every meal we had seemed to include artichokes, I’ve been cooking with them at home too. I assume they’re in high season as they’re absolutely bountiful at our local farmers market. On the blog today is my recipe for artichoke and leek soup. I used a combination of chicken and Parmesan broth for an extra savory note.
Chanko-nabe (sumo stew)
A traditional Japanese stew sumo wrestlers ate everyday to build strength 💪 Sumo wrestlers are healthy obese, that is they're HIGHLY active with huge muscle mass with little visceral fat (dangerous belly fat around organs), but instead carry their fat immediately under the skin
I won't be sumo wrestling anytime soon, but do enjoy homemade Chanko-nabe 👏 Full of quality protein, different vegetables and immune supportive spices. .
For the broth:
1.5L chicken/fish or vegetable broth
2 tablespoons ginger, grated
5 cloves garlic, minced
8 tablespoons white miso
For the Meatballs:
500g pork/ chicken mince
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon pure sesame oil
1 tablespoon corn starch
Salt and pepper, or 2 teaspoons gluten-free soy sauce
For the stew:
Meatballs (see above)
1-2 Boc choi, washed with ends removed
1/2 head Chinese cabbage, washed and chopped
6 green onions, washed and chopped into inches
1 carrot, washed and chopped
1 bunch Enoki mushroom, washed with ends removed
Few Coriander stems, chopped (optional)
1) In large pot, combine all broth ingredients and bring to boil, then simmer. Add carrot 🥕
2) Make meatballs by combining all ingredients and form balls. Plop into broth
3) Add the rest of the stew ingredients/vegies, except coriander
4) Allow to simmer for 45-60minutes, until meatballs are cooked through
5) Serve hot, and top with detoxifying coriander ☘️ .
No you won't gain weight if you make this stew, as we've omitted starches. Give it a try and let me know how you went! 🥘

🥞 Sure there are times when you can get similar quality for cheaper but in the ‘health food’ industry you need to question why things are cheaper!
Natural PB’s tend to have zero artificial ingredients and you can actually say their names. Like @pipandnut for instance. Just coconut oil, almonds, salt and a splash of agave. They taste notably better too in my opinion.
Take a cheaper Peanut butter and all of a sudden we’re immediately out the realm of ‘health foods’.
Hydrogenated oils tend to cause damage to our body, stabilisers are chemicals which either preserve the shelf life of the product but also transform the natural form of fats in the product.
Ingredients like corn syrup can also wreak havoc on our gut, acting as rapidly digestible oil in pure carbohydrate form, often called glucose or fructose syrup.
Then also look at the sugar content. Peanut butter should NEVER have much sugar, it’s predominantly fat!
Now this is why I pay for more expensive products like this peanut butter. Both admittedly taste really friggin good, but in terms of quality and what it does to your body, you can beat a natural ingredient, big brand product.
In a health choice you need to look at what you’re putting in your body, you may be thinking that peanut butter is healthy which it can be, but make your own conclusion and check out the ingredients!!
Just because an Instagram star is smashing some PB doesn’t mean it’s good for them.
I’m not bashing brands here, I’m just highlighting the difference in quality and price along the scale.

Ik ben lekker in Noordwijk aan Zee en kom net terug van mijn ‘morning swim’. Even een lekkere workout in het zwembad! Zometeen genieten van mijn sinaasappel-grapefruit-citroen sapje, overnight-oats en cappuccino.
Gisteren waren mijn ouders hier ook nog en hebben we samen genoten van een mooie dag strand. ‘s avonds geborreld met opa & oma, om daarna te genieten van deze huisgemaakte tonijnsalade met salade, een gekookt eitje en een plak ‘Liefde & Passie’ brood. Yum!☀️

We had a killer crew, a blue cheese cave, a silly hat Sunday, a Prosecco Bar with our friends @brownbrothers, and our CEO Ceridwen even served up a staff meal of three cheese spaghetti swirled inside our empty wheels!
Demand for fromage was so strong that we had to call in papa Brown for an emergency cheese run all the way from a Milawa! A big shout out to Milawa’s very own Penny who braved the #foodandbeer Experience stage with @beer_diva for a tasting flight like no other!

oh hello, DREAMY TOMATO PASTA 🌿🍅👌🏼! gluten free pasta in a rich garlicy tomato sauce with zucchini + olives, topped with goat cheese!
cooked brown rice pasta
1 tin crushed tomatoes
1 zucchini, peeled into strips
2 tsp crushed garlic paste
pink salt + black pepper
1/4 cup kalamata olives, halved
goat cheese to top
sauté zucchini with the tomatoes and garlic. once soft add pasta and olives. season with s&p and sprinkle with goat cheese or nutritional yeast 💥
