Downward Facing Dog can be a struggle. If the top is you, try lifting the heels and bending the knees as much as you need!
#AdhoMukhaSvanasana ↔ #DownwardFacingDogPose on 👉@yogaalignment with @gregpember .
. Do you feel resistance or tightness in your hamstrings when practicing downward dog?
So often in class I see people with tight hamstrings try to force the stretch through the backs of the legs, causing a posterior tilt of the pelvis and often resulting in a subtle (or not so subtle) rounding of the back.
If this sounds or looks familiar, try softening the knees and reach the sitting bones higher to create traction and length through the spine.
This will free up the low back and help the hamstrings to relax.
With an anterior tilt of the pelvis we can eventually work towards straightening the legs and reaching the heels towards the ground.
Helpful or not?? Let me know! ⬇️
This. This moment. The moment I finally met my “first” yoga teacher @kinoyoga. I used to read her book over and over. I would watch all her YouTube videos so I could learn how to headstand or how to roll the toes from #urdhvamukhasvanasana to #downwardfacingdog . I was a little obsessed. Little did I know how the practice would transform me and lead me to much a deeper transformation. A transformation to become more conscious and ultimately so full of contentment and joy, from within. So when the first words she shared with us had nothing to with asana practice and everything to do with awareness, non-attachment, feelings, sensations, and becoming more conscious, I knew that I am on the path I am meant to be on, even though it looks really bumpy sometimes. I just trust. Trust in the path. Moment to moment, in complete surrender. #filledupwithlove
Last night was pure magic 💙🦋✨Thank you to all that came out for our Sound for Movement event last night. Feeling ridiculously blessed with the amount of love, support and good vibes that were on the farm. 🥰🥰🥰 Stay tuned for the next one happening in July/ August 🙏🏻 #soundformovement#blessed
Downward dog is a good stretch for my aching lower back and tight hamstrings. My hopes of raising a little yogi have been dashed - the little boy has no interest in my asanas, not even when I go upside down. Boo!
So I tried this the other day.
You need to warm up thoroughly first so you don't hurt yourself.
Keep your feet in the same place, lift your butt and move your butt forwards to deepen the split.
Then, once comfortable, bend forward. And then try to close your legs, while sliding the torso forwards.
Tip: You can also occasionally glance at your camera to see if it's recording everything.
You guys!!!! I this is the first time I’ve ever been able to do an extended crow variation! I knew I was ready to try a more challenging pose so I went for it. My lil man Mason was sitting on the side lines cheering me on and when I finally got it he jumped up and down with me and said “Mom I knew you could do it! You were out there being a big success!” And my hubs was also there cheering me on and believing in me! It helped so much to make me not give up and I did it! I haven’t been this excited since I did the eagle pose with a bind! Having a support system is so crucial and I’m so lucky to have these two in my life right by my side throughout my yoga journey. Here is my attempt at the final day of #aloasana101 doing #sidecrow#extendedvariation . Swipe to see my hilarious failed attempt lol. If anyone needs a cheerleader please message me. I’ve been blessed enough to have not only my husband and my son but many friends and family members who believe in me and love to see me succeed. I want to be that person for anyone who may not have that. Onto the next challenge!

Usually it's considered a resting pose
Unless you don't want it to be
If you engage your legs, push through your arms, and engage your shoulders then its suddenly no longer a resting pose

After years of not doing a Yoga Class, I still rely on some of its key positions, like the Downward Dog.
It's important for us to acknowledge our potentially wounded inner child... this came up a lot today on our Kali live coaching call. Were you there? 🌸This weekend I released a new Yin Yoga flow that focuses on the Root Chakra. This is the first chakra, because it tends stabilizes us, helps us feel safe, and represents the things that GROUND us in our identity in the world: like our childhoods, families, past traumas, and the stories we tell ourselves about them. It's at the base level of everything else that makes us who we are! Tune in via #LinkInBio to put this into practice with me on the mat 💓

Let your belly hang! Thug out with my chub out all summer long! I love the freedom I found in thinking about how I feel rather than worrying about how I look #thatsyoga .
And I'll be honest that's a practice too. Every day is not a happily let it hang, jiggle, wobble day. But I gotta choose myself EVERY.DAMN.DAY. EVERY.LAST.POUND. #showoff
