This is the tail of a beautiful snapping turtle who arrived at my door late last night. I received her on behalf of Hobbitstee Wildlife Refuge. She had a brief stop here and then continued her journey to Jarvis. I will spare you the intake photos. Needless to say, she was critically injured. If you’d like to support her recovery, please consider making a donation toward her care at @hobbitsteewildliferefuge
Countless turtles are killed on roadways and development sites each year. It’s heartbreaking to think that anyone could leave an injured creature like this - in all its magnificence and prehistoric beauty - to die.
Please, folks, if you spot a turtle in harm’s way, do what you can to help. Here are a few tips:
🐢 Learn how to safely move turtles off of the road. Not sure how to handle a snapping turtle? Check out this video:
🐢 Carry gloves and a cardboard box in your vehicle to contain injured turtles.
🐢 Keep the contact info for local wildlife resources in your phone. In Ontario, you can visit the following link for a list of licensed wildlife custodians/rehabbers:
🐢 Do not give any food or water, unless directed to by a licensed wildlife custodian
🐢 If you’re able, please take the time to deliver injured wildlife to the wildlife rehabber. In Ontario, wildlife rehabilitators receive no government funding. They rely on donations and often use their own personal funds to do what they do. They will rarely have the additional time or resources to transport wildlife. Your willingness to transport could mean the difference between life and death for that wild animal.
🐢 If you’re able, please donate to support your local wildlife rehabilitator(s). Every dollar makes a difference.
🐢 Finally, spread the word! Educate others. Encourage others to help when they’re able. #dowhatyoucan#snappingturtle#turtle#turtlesofinstagram#wildlife

Battling some foot pain so I threw the bike on the trainer instead of getting a long run in today. I also didn’t run all week because of the pain. The pain didn’t improve much this last week so I’m going to switch from my regular workouts to yoga and low impact along with biking and maybe a swim. Hoping the extra rest will help 🤞 and I’m trying to stay positive. .
This woman was having a hard time carrying her groceries so I helped her until we got to her bus stop. She spoke to me in Italian for 45 min. as we walked. It was so cute because she knew I had no idea what she was saying, but I just smiled and she kept going. I captured these brief moments. It’s the #smallthings#dowhatyoucan Also, can anyone translate the first one for me? 🙏🏼

Did a little foraging around my moms garden! Growing your own food or helping your friends and family use up some of their homegrown produce is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. 👩🌾🍓
Biodegradable straws...the way to go! Look at how cool they are😎good choice when it comes to a wedding!

#Harley🐷 the EcoPiggy!!
You can't always win... I was not on this trip alone. So it was hard to make a zero-waste impact.
#Harley🐷 had a tantrum in a restaurant when people ordered drinks (without saying "no straw")... (📷collage no.2) Admittedly, I was not paying attention and also assumed that an island town would avoid plastics and straws... I learned my lesson and asked for no straw from then on. 🍴
'S' bought me reusable chopsticks for my #ecotogokit which was very sweet. We did use them on the trip, but 6 people don't really like to share 1 set of chopsticks, so wood ones were used and tossed...
I brought my #reusable utensils and #clothnapkin but no containers... And many places used styrofoam containers and #singleuse utensils.(📷 no.2) 😒
One restaurant had paper straws for short drinks, and plastic straws for tall ones...😰 Why?! (I learned this by watching drinks go by, then confirming and refusing straws.) And if they didn't have straws, they'd give you a plastic sword with your fruit garnish, instead of just in the drink. Unfortunately, if you didn't want those, then they would have those cute but single-use umbrellas in every drink holding your fruit garnish. 🍹🍹🍹
You have to be willing to not eat/drink something if you don't want to make waste in an unfamiliar place. Unfortunately, when with other people, that can be a downer... so you just suck it up, knowing that THEY know it wasn't really by choice.😢 My boyfriend knew I was upset and was good (he would ask for no straw and refuse a bag). 💚
At a stand with local snacks by the tourist-y stops, I decided to get a local treat in a paper bag (📷 no.1)♻, because the other dry snacks were in plastic bags and the fresh fruit was in plastic tubs.🚮 Unfortunately, someone in my group got the plastic-bagged snacks... (📷 no.2)
I avoided those ice cream cups twice by getting cones!!🍦(📷 no.1)
I used my bag (that I used as a purse many times) to put fruit and nuts in! My local farmer's market haul, and macadamia nuts and star fruit from the botanical garden!(📷 no.1)
If not I, then who? .
I never really noticed how bad of a problem homelessness was until I moved to Miami. On almost every street corner, you would see people begging for food. It broke my heart thinking about these people who are hungry and need basic necessities. Meanwhile, I’ll throw away extra stuff from my fridge at the end of the week.
I actually found myself giving away my own lunch on my way to work because I knew I could always buy myself something once I was there. That’s when I started making these bags. They have food, positive messages, information from local shelters and simple necessities. I keep them in my car so I can help anyone who looks like they’re in need. Every time I run out, I make more bags.
I used to always look away, say that someone else will surely help. I judged the homeless I saw going into gas stations and buying beer/cigarettes. But who am I to judge? That doesn’t describe everyone who’s in that situation. Why not instead of judge just help? .
If you feel serious about an issue in the world, do something to help. Don’t feel sad and then dismiss your feelings because you think that someone else is going to do something about it. Volunteer your time, give away food, donate to charities that support these causes. Even though I don’t have much, I still choose to give what I can. I just want to leave the world a little bit better then I found it. If I can make one persons day just a little bit better, then it was all worth it.
I know there’s something everyone is passionate about. I know there’s issues we all care about. Now is the time to just go do. You got this!
If not I, then who?
Sometimes, we have to accept that we’ve at least tried our best. Finished #bbgweekone with 3/3 LISS sessions and 2/3 #BBG workouts. I’m sure, #bbgweektwo will be better and I’ll be able to complete it fully. How was your week?
I love being able to get snacks from my yard. All organic and no pesticides and 100% delicious 😊 Now that it's cooler out time to tuck in all my babies with some compost and wood chips to nourish them through winter so they will wake up healthy and strong in spring.
I hope you are enjoying your Sunday ❣️

As I posted earlier this week, I slept wrong on my neck and have been in a lot of pain. Friday morning when I got off work I was feeling better so I chose sleep over chiro visit... I woke up feeling even worse 😩. My shoulders and neck are still stiff but the pain is getting better. My body craved exercise today so I decided to do something that would make me sweat, not cause my pain to increase but also to stretch everything out... I went with PiYo sweat. I did all but the push up specific portion of the workout for obvious reasons... I mean there are plenty push ups throughout the workout but my shoulder couldn’t handle that much with planks. Feeling good after that for sure! #piyo#lowimpact#dowhatyoucan#feelssogood

I was trying to explain to someone why having a good hour or even day, doesn’t accurately show my life. This is a rough draft of what people think I could easily accomplish vs. an AVERAGE day for me. I made note at the bottom of each denoting what people think I could still do and what I actually have to still find room for.
Some people are very sick and still work, but others can’t. I will find a way to work someday but right now it’s definitely not in the cards. My doctors agree, which is a relief. Initially there was a push to get me to go work somewhere somehow. My goal now is to look into clinical study management. I feel like I could do that in my chair when necessary.
Wheelchairs. I use one and it’s a power chair. People look at me oddly or even ask flat out why I need one. I was talking with my physical therapist about it and he said that he gets it. I have to think a lot when I walk, especially in bad days. As long as I am still walking whenever possible, and doing other activities like swimming using my chair when I need it isn’t an issue.
Test driving the new chair tomorrow ♥️. If you are up for sharing, the link is in my bio. I had emergencies so my plan go pay $500 and tax out of pocket is proving difficult. Plus Go Fund Me took their bit haha. My first goal is to start volunteer work again with the Red Cross. I also want to work some adoption events with local animal rescues.
Not the sexiest pic ever posted on IG.🤷🏽♀️ But food prep isn’t about that! It’s about having healthy food on hand, as much as possible.👌🏼 And ALSO- cause I TOTALLY used to do this ALL the time- not letting it spoil because I didn’t make the time to cut into it.🤔🙋🏽♀️😆 #foodpreprealness#basic

It's #selfcaresunday and the cooler temps mean I can start sweater snuggles 🤗😊 It really is the little things that bring me the most joy. What brings you the most joy?
Some days are harder than others and that’s okay! You got this! Happy Sunday! Remember to get some recharge time in today.

#CWCCanidResponseTeam#coyotes#coyotewatchcanada#iamcwc#canids#coyoteslivehere#compassionateconservation#teamworkmakesthedreamwork#RepostSave@beckyloveswildlife with @repostsaveapp ・・・ I spent my day conducting site visits with Lesley Sampson, Executive Director at @coyotewatchcanada. I lead the Canid Response Team in Guelph, but today my work took me to the Niagara region.
I see a lot of sad things in this role — sick and injured animals, canids deliberately harmed by people, and pups left orphaned due to human activity. But today was a different kind of sad.
I walked through a site that used to be home to a family of three Eastern Coyotes. The area has been cleared for development. A small patch of brush remains just outside of the construction zone. Within the brush, we found evidence of coyote presence - fresh scat, bedding areas, and paths through the tall grass. I followed one path. It ended abruptly where the construction fencing began. I could see a flattened patch of grass at the fence line, where a coyote likely sat and observed his home being torn up. I often wonder what these animals are thinking when they observe these activities.
This is a complex problem. There is no simple solution. But it’s important that we consider the many ways in which we impact the living space and behaviours of wildlife with OUR living activities. We are continually reducing and fragmenting their habitats and their homes. Please consider this the next time you scoff at a “nuisance” animal or a wild animal that you perceive as “out of place” in the spaces you frequent. Our sense of entitlement to these spaces is highly problematic. Education and awareness are vital to coexisting with our wild neighbours. #easterncoyote#canislatrans#wildlife#dowhatyoucan#coyotewatchcanada#coexistence#fieldwork#fauna#coyoteslivehere
Wrapped and ready for toddler’s upcoming birthday. Wanted to reuse wrapping supplies and use up existing supplies (not buying any new wrapping supplies in 2018) ✔️and make sure these were easy for him to open without help ✔️

Brushed my hair for the first time in a month. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! I've also shaved my legs and pits for the first time in 2 weeks? Pretty victorious morning. Fatigue sucks. Doing what you can and leaving the unnecessary is more than okay. I'm not working till the afternoon and @becca_buddug is cooking lunch, so I'm going to craft, watch Saturday kitchen and rest. .

Wanneer is ooit?
Go for it and enjoy your own adventure!! -
Liefs Esmerakda 🙏🏼💛
I said when the time was right I'd share this story. This isn't fashion related although my dress is from @zara 🙂
The last whatsapp msg I ever got from my dad said - 'that's nice idea, sure they'll be appreciated'
He was referring to these chemo pouches that I'd decided to do to give to people going through treatment for cancer. At the time he was fighting it as was my father in law. Little did I know my Dad would never get his, never know what we achieved nor would I have to see it through and deliver them to the nurses that looked after him just a few weeks after he died.
My father in law got his but didn't get to use it.
I delivered 40 pouches last November and they sure as hell were appreciated Dad. There were a few tears too.
A year on I am doing this again in their memory and I've been blown away by everyone's support - I have 50 to deliver!.
Each pouch has been sponsored by someone at a cost of £19 which means I can buy the pouch. I then use my commission to fill them and also lots of lovely people are sending me bits to put in them too.
It's been an horrific time for us but if we can help someone else and brighten their day whilst they fight this awful disease then it will be worth it 😊 x
I want to show you not only my art but also the things that inspire me everyday! Like self love ❤️ It is so important in life to love yourself and take care of yourself. There have been times in my life that I have dimmed down my shine, my contagious love, my amazing life just to make others comfortable, and that is wrong. I love and care for people just as much as ever before but it's time to also let myself shine! I wish I had found this confidence and self love a long time ago. It is definitely still a journey I am on and working at but it's a super happy and fun journey to be on. I encourage you to look in the mirror today and say "I love you, You are a work of art!". Accept compliments, give complements, do what makes you happy, surround yourself with people that make you happy and people that encourage you back! I am happy to say I have amazing family and friends in my life where we all support and love each other! We celebrate life together, we cheer each other on 🙌
I encourage you to seek out the people that inspire you. To name a few people that are a huge inspiration to me are my friend @jess.nadine.c she helps me see that everyday there is time for my well being and for my health; no excuses get out there and exercise! Release those endorphins and allow your mind and body happiness. Also my sister @zofia143 helps inspire me that change is amazing and no matter what you can find the strength in you to accomplish anything you want!! "You can wake up to your dreams" ☁️ Go out there and Live your life in peace, love, happiness and kindness to yourself and to others 💖 also take opportunities!! I took the opportunity to work with my beautiful friend @beautified.by_jess, she did my hair and makeup in this beautiful picture. It made me feel like a princess. I love getting my hair and makeup done and doing photos! thank you so much Jess you spoiled me and I loved it! Your amazing and inspiring 😘😘💖💖 .

#thestruggle is real 🙌 Has anyone else had difficulty sticking to their workout routine or healthy eating lately? .
For me it has honestly been a bit of a struggle 🤫 Between tweaking my shoulder (momming to hard) and having visitors the past 2 weeks I have fallen off my routine both fitness + diet. This week will be difficult too since my family will be in town and we’ll be traveling. BUT I’m going to focus on what I CAN do! I’m going to enjoy this time with my family and try to make better food choices to offset and get in extra activity where I can👍 .
Life happens and if we focus too much on what we aren’t doing & beat ourselves up when we fall off...it makes it much more difficult to get back on track. So, if you’ve found yourself lagging a bit lately, ITS OKAY 👌 Life is crazy so we just have to do what we can! It’s little things that can make a huge difference- here are a few ideas to offset those crazy periods in life 🍁 Park a little farther when going to the store (every step counts)
🍁 Opt for a ‘lighter’ option when eating out 🍁 Drink more water (it will help keep you hydrated + help metabolism)
🍁 Workout before guests wake up or during their nap (time change can work to your advantage 😉)
🍁Choose active sites to see (hiking, museum, biking, etc)
🍁 Make a homemade meal (tend to have less calories + you can add in all the healthy options!)
What helps you stay on track when life gets crazy?!
