Kampala - Entebbe rd & Grace.
The streets are moving, everything is exposed before your eyes. Softly, roughly. Unfiltered. I used to go almost every day to Kampala, where the road sets its own rules.
Honored to be featured artist at @christiansinvisualarts "Our featured artist this month is Asher Imtiaz, a photographer born and raised in Pakistan who moved to the States in 2012. Based in Wisconsin, Imtiaz’s artwork consists almost entirely of photographs of people.
“I am always exploring the question of connection—or lack of it—in society: our connection with the Creator, God; our connection with the person standing in front of us; our connection with the words ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ and the artist’s connection with the work created.”" To learn more about Imtiaz and his art, go to:

December 13th, 2018 | Meet Lily, Sesame Street's first homeless muppet for @nytimes. Two and a half million children are homeless in the US. According to nyt "On sesame Street, "homeless" is never uttered because of the stigma surrounding the word; on the show "H" stands for hope, help, healing, and home" big ups to @jfurt for the multi media vision. I knew that he served because he had his VA ID card around his neck. Do you know what addiction is how it hurts you? He told me that he can’t feel sorry for people not understanding what they may see when they look at me. He said we judge every day. People will look at you right in the eyes and not even speak as if you are filth and some try to avoid eye contact with you! He said look at me I’m dirty, my clothes are filthy, and what do you do with dirt in your home? He said, “You sweep it up and throw it away!” Harry said that after his wife and son were killed in a car accident while he was deployed early while he was in service in the USMC, he went through a long period of depression, anger, and anxiety and didn’t know how to cope with the pain of losing his wife, and son. So that lead to drinking. Harry told me that he sought help with the local housing program in an attempt to get off of the streets. He told me their mission is to help recipients get help for mental health, substance abuse, but that comes only after you have a roof over your head, so he said when you don’t have a roof over your head you are then not worthy of help. You are just dirt so back to the streets I go to blend in with the rest of the dirt on the streets. After a while you just become what you are! That makes me a camillion to the curbs, streets, back alleys, and burrows because no one wants to see you or acknowledge you are there. #veterans#homelessnothopeless#notforgotten#photojournalism#documentaryphotographer#documentaryphotography#bwphotography#bwphotographer#tellingtheirstoriesthroughmylens#leicacamera#leicacamerausa#sonyalpha#m240#a7iii#sigmaart#Boston#natgeoyourshot#yourshotphotographer#artpartner
I’m no more your mother
Than the cloud that distills a mirror to reflect its own slow
Effacement at the wind’s hand.
All night your moth-breath
Flickers among the flat pink roses. I wake to listen:
A far sea moves in my ear. ~Morning Song, Sylvia Plath (Part 2)

One cry, and I stumble from bed, cow-heavy and floral
In my Victorian nightgown.
Your mouth opens clean as a cat’s. The window square
Whitens and swallows its dull stars. And now you try
Your handful of notes;
The clear vowels rise like balloons. ~Morning Song, Sylvia Plath (Part 3)
This is something I wrote a little while back in a sudafed mixed with red wine haze, but given the streaming of the DFA awards yesterday, thought we'd just put it right here.
A reminder for my friends that doing well in competitions is only one thin indicator of success. To me success is more about showing up. It's disregarding crippling fear and fatigue and depressing lack of income. It's making failed picture after failed picture and then coming back again the next day ready for more failure. It's wearing unsuccessful shoots as a badge of honour and spending hours and hours trying to figure out where you went wrong. It's letting your values speak louder than your self doubt. It's understanding that talent is a very small component of getting where you want to go. And yes, it's also being awarded in competitions like the @documentaryfamilyawards .
Blimie and I would like to acknowledge the vulnerability of all those who entered. We want to congratulate those who placed and thank @jennacshouldice , @kirstenlphotog and @ryanchristopherjones for the 7 hours of education. Now we are very much anticipating a curation of all three DFA rounds on the walls at Storytellers in May. DFA award winning photo we love from previous round by @stephanielynnhuber .

Burnes Road, more commonly known as Buns Road in Karachi lingo, is the city’s gastronomic centre. Only serious foodies and those with a strong stomach venture to this part of town to savour some local classics. It’s located in the congested Old City hence, getting to this part of town is always an ordeal in itself. If you happen to get past the crazy traffic the next challenge is to try and find a decent parking spot. I’ve seldom seen this area empty at any time of the day.
