I’ve always been a sucker for words on the wall. When I was 3 years old I took a little dance class and I can remember seeing some big huge words on the wall. I couldn’t read them yet but I was curious what they said. My mom told me they said “if you think you can you can, if you think you can’t you’re right.” Nearly 30 years later and the profound truth of those words still resonates with me, so much so that for the last 11 years as a teacher whenever I would hear “I can’t!” I made sure to tell all my students that story and reiterate that our thoughts are powerful, so powerful in fact that if you believe you can’t do something your brain will accept that as truth and stop trying - but if you believe you CAN do something that belief is equally - no, even more - powerful for it can fuel the determination you’ll need to accomplish whatever difficult task you face. With all our hearts we hope our kids will know this and be empowered and not defeated by their thoughts.
What important life lesson do you hope to teach and model for your kids?
Thank you 謝謝 @_yu__jie_ for the share
Tainan, a city on Taiwan’s southwest coast, was the island’s capital from 1683–1887 under the Qing dynasty. Today it’s known for its centuries-old fortresses and temples. One of its most famous sites is Chihkan Tower, an 18th-century Chinese complex with gardens, intricately carved towers and a temple erected on the foundations of Fort Provintia, a Dutch outpost dating to the mid-1600s.
