Saturdays are considered to be one of the most wonderful days of the week. My Saturday has been uplifted by reading the news about the opening of the Malaga CF Intellectual Disability School.
Malaga CF is not an ordinary football club, but rather an institution with over 114 years of history which has embedded in itself the spirit and importance of family. I have been a loyal supporter and follower of Malaga CF since 2010.
The school aims to:- 'Standardise sports practice and convey values such as solidarity, companionship and overcoming adversity, amongst others'. Well done to everyone involved!

My name is Deji Yusuf. The founder of Scars2starsInitiative. You may have probably wondered how you can support my initiative or project, it's simple! You can support me by inviting me to speak on a topic close to my heart, titled "EMBRACING DIVERSITY". As a survivor of a fire incident, who sustained 35% burns, which has left me to be permanently scarred, I understand what it means to be different in a society where differences are not often embraced or celebrated.
Moreover, as a practitioner, I have a deep insight into the issue of diversity. People need to be enlightened on the impacts of stigmatization, discrimination, oppression and bullying on human development, and its impact on the community at large. It is statistically proven that hate crime is the highest form of crime amongst others within communities, in which people are hated, attacked, or abused because of their outward appearances or differences.
From my experiences and research, I discovered that when diversity is embraced, the community becomes stronger. We must understand that, irrespective of our differences, individuals have unique strengths, abilities and gifts. Importantly, where diversity is promoted, people are more willing to contribute positively to the organisation or community. It is my HOPE that speaking on this topic at your next event will bring greater good to your organisation, and to the community at large.
DISCLAIMER : this is my story. I'm not telling you to stop your birth control pill. I'm not saying birth control pills are bad. The way I stopped my BCP might be harmful. Talk to your doctors.
PART 1 : WHY I'M GOING OFF MY BIRTH CONTROL PILL
I got my first period when I was 12. It soon appeared I had particularly heavy and painful menstruation. After spending a few years chronically anemic because of it I saw a gynecologist who prescribed me the birth control pill. Unfortunately, as I discovered years later, she prescribed me an especially bad BCP. DIANE-35 (only sold if France, Switzerland, Belgium and Canada as far as I know) contains cyproterone acetate (same thing as Androcur), an antiandrogen molecule, which means it stops the effects of male hormones like testosterone. It makes it effective against hair growth and acne and as a contraceptive. But it comes with a price.
All BCPs can have side effects. But mixing cyproterone acetate with ethinylestradiol as it is in Diane-35 increases the risk of blood clots TWICE AS MUCH as other pill. Other listed side effects of cyproterone acetate are : depression (20% of the women taking it as contraceptive have reported depression), anxiety (which I suffer from), B12 deficiency (which I have suffered from and is linked to nerve damage and POTS), fatigue (which I suffer from), loss of libido (which I suffer from), osteoporosis, liver damage and last but not least, searchers recently discovered it was linked to an increased risk of developing meningiomas which are benign brain tumors. Yep. And I've taken that thing for almost ten years.
So I decided I needed to stop taking this birth control pill ASAP. But as you may know, periods tend to make POTS symptoms way worse. Right now I'm going off of it to see how my body reacts but I did ask my gynecologist to write me a prescription for an other less dangerous pill if it turns out I can't bear having natural periods.
Next time we'll talk about HOW I stopped taking the birth control pill!
SEPTEMBER IS SUICIDE AWARENESS MONTH #suicidepreventionawareness#suicidepreventionmonth
Spot light 💡late DON CORNELIUS (R.I.P)
Don Cornelius was the creator and host of Soul Train, evidence that happiness comes from many sources; whether you made a positive impact to society or not.🎵🎶 It has been reported that reason for his proposed suicide in 2012 was that he was suffering from the early onset of dementia or Alzheimer's disease, and his health had been on the decline.(but truth is we will ever know why)It is also reported that after suffering from seizures due to an aneurysm, Cornelius found it increasingly difficult to treat his symptoms with medication, adding to his frustration and low moods
It was reported that his method of suicide was a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
His most memorable quote: LOVE PEACE AND SOUL
DID YOU KNOW?In 2017 there were 6,213 suicides in the UK and Republic of Ireland.5,821 suicides were registered in the UK and 392 occurred in the Republic of Ireland.
In the UK men remain three times as likely to take their own lives than women, and in the Republic of Ireland four times more likely. The highest suicide rate in the UK was for men aged 45-49. Nearly 6,000 suicides occurred in the UK in 2017.1
That figure means there is one death by suicide every two hours - and many more people are thought to attempt suicide.
SOME OF THE WARNING SIGNS CAN BE : ⚠️Threats or comments about killing themselves, also known as suicidal ideation ⚠️Seemingly harmless thoughts like “I wish I wasn’t here” but can become more overt and dangerous ⚠️Increased alcohol and drug use ⚠️Aggressive behavior ⚠️Social withdrawal from friends, family and the community ⚠️Dramatic mood swings ⚠️Talking, writing or thinking about death ⚠️Impulsive or reckless behavior
Sometimes all that's needed is someone to provide a willing listening ear and raising awareness (help me raise awareness by sharing this post and your stories)
Learn to Let Go
Sometimes we must be willing to let go of relationships which no longer serve us or the other person.
When this happens, we create the opportunity for new relationships to be formed with those whom operate at a similar level of consciousness, appreciation, and love as we do.
Release your grip on people, habits, beliefs, and thoughts which no longer bring value to your life and then notice how easy it becomes to breathe deeply and strengthen who you are and what's possible without those negative influences in your life.
